Official announcements and happiness!
Hey, you all should comment on this post
Because something MAGICAL might happen!!!
Like...
We now show who has liked and commented on a post in the participants list in the feed (we'll be improving this more and giving you more options so you can see who specifically has liked the post or each comment soon!).
And if you stare at this post long enough, you'll see that when other people comment, you can see that there are new comments without even having to refresh the page.
And soon you'll even be able to know when people are typing a response!
Oh, and you also have the ability to enable desktop notifications for when something exciting happens on Imzy that deserves your attention, should you so choose.
Web sockets are magical. (Also @Alex and @James.)
Tell us what you think below! Or what you're doing this weekend! Or something great that happened to you this last week! Just comment! 😄

I can tell, this is the beginning of something magical!
Do you believe in miracles? Yes.
All day long.
Ooooh, exciting!
I don't like the user icons showing up on the post. My internet is very slow, and having to load all those icons has made this page take forever.
Hmm, ok, we'll look into that and see what we can do to improve that. Sorry about that!
So much real-time, so much magic!
Such shopping cart. Much moving background.
I see me!!!
I see you too!
The googles, they do nothing!
Great googilymoogily
YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!!!
GO FIX NOTIFICATIONS. ❤
Damn straight!
Hahaha exactly that.
Kate, we have to go back!
Hi, everybody!
Welcome!
Woo hoo! Nice job guys!
Why thank you!
Hey
Whoops, didn't mean for that to come off so creepy.
XD
This was more what I had in mind:
This is the start of something grand
Awwwwh, shucks!
We sure hope so!!
Is it a magic trick or an illusion tho?
Why not both? :)
I'm liking the direction this site is going!
Yay! We're doing it all thanks to your feedback, so keep it coming!
Yahtzee!!!
Wut?!? Amazing
Buh-oom!
I have no clue what i am doing!
Whee another post!
Now go make even more! 😄
"Are you making a positive contribution to the conversation? Of course you are!" But really I'm not sure I am. Maybe more of a neutral contribution. If I add a giphy, will that make this a positive contribution?
STAY IN YOUR LANE
This is the real definition of magic
Woo! Glad you approve.
This is interesting and something other platforms haven't utilised, all in all I likey.
Thanks! 😄
Magic... Magic everywhere...
Sure, I'll jump on this bandwagon. Weee!
Hooray!!
=D These changes sound AWESOME!
Yay! Glad you like them! :)
I am commenting! I am commenting!
Woooo!
I'm always late to the party. Dang.
No way! The party never stops here!
^ see? We just resuscitated it.
Rescuscitation isn't always a good thing... but I appreciate being included anyway :)
Dang, even Frankie is apparently partying!
As long as the thing resuscitated doesn't come back to try to eat or kill me, I'm all for it. Especially if it means you get to be a part of things! :)
You can't escape the party even if you want to!
MAGIC
Hahaha that gif is one of my favorites.
Also, did you know you can embed the gif in your comment?
Almost the exact formatting as a link, but you put an exclamation mark in front of it:
looks like:MORE MAGIC!
Hahahaha
oh my gosh! all the faces!
It's so much friendlier now!!
Friday!!!
I still think it's weird that you auto-like your own posts. I think of the "like" function as something to let me know when someone is engaging. I know I posted and how I feel about whatever it was. What I want to know is if anyone out there is engaging and if I see a "like" my first instinct is "hey, someone is talking to me," then I see it's only me and I get confused. It's very existential, I know.
Hey! Thanks for your feedback on this. This is something we are definitely listening to people about. Let me explain why we put it there and have decided to keep it so far.
It encourages others to do the same. In general, there is a continually increasing probability that others will participate in posts if they see signs of engagement already there. If there are 10 comments on a post, the next person who comes along is more likely to comment on it than if there is only one comment, and you are much more likely to comment on it if there is one comment than if there are zero. The same is true of likes. And even if that first like is just the post author liking their own post, it sets a precedent for others to like it as well, so you potentially actually get more people interacting with your post than you would have previously.
It makes people more likely to read your posts and comments. When something has no likes, it's easy to interpret that as "oh, this isn't worth reading/wasting my time on" and scroll past. And that just isn't true. YOU thought it was worthwhile, after all. We don't have a huge number of users right now, so it's easy for things to not get a ton of likes, but that doesn't lessen the value of those posts and comments. We want to make sure that if you took the time to say it, other people take the time to read it.
It sets a positive tone for Imzy. It just makes things feel more friendly and happy when you browse posts and comments and see likes everywhere. It puts others in a friendly mood, which then make them more likely to feel happy when they visit Imzy, feel happy about the content they're seeing and want to also like it, and to respond to others in more positive ways than negative when they comment. We want Imzy to be a welcoming and happy place, and this helps do that.
We're of course willing to test everything and try new things—that's the whole point of a beta, after all!—but that's our reasoning for why we've done things the way we have so far.
Roger that. No reason not to steer your users to a particular set of intuitions and behaviors, it's just different enough from comparable features in other platforms that it's not immediately intuitive.
Also, if you want, you can like your own post a second time manually.
