"Imzy For Newbies" guide?
I'm curious about whether such a thing's been written. If so, could I have a link to it?
If not, well, I've been considering drafting one up as we approach open beta. The site's been fairly intuitive for me, but I seem to have a knack for finding my way around new interfaces. Wouldn't be the first time I've glommed onto an interface in about ten minutes while it takes someone else ten days, or weeks.
If there's interest in such a guide, what are the points that people would like covered? What things did you have trouble with when joining Imzy? What are some valuable links or cool tips and tricks that you'd like to share?
Apologies if I'm overstepping things and biting off something that should be left up to staff.

The two most helpful links I've found thus far are:
https://www.imzy.com/fail_fandom_anon/post/imzy_user_guide
and
https://www.imzy.com/imzy/post/introduction_to_imzys_flavour_of_markdown_1
Good luck!
I'm not new! If I was, I wouldn't be writing a guide. :P
Thank you for the links, though!
Yeah, I edited after I checked your join date. Sorry about that!
No problem! I've made the same mistake myself, heh.
I sometimes think that having a "real" newbie keep a running list of the questions and WTFs and then going back to find the answers would be really useful. As a more experienced user, you forget the "easy" stuff that confounded you when you started.
Absolutely. I wish I'd done that when starting out. But everything was so shiny and new and documenting my confusions didn't occur to me.
Heck, I didn't start keeping track of the bugs I've run into until recently. I'm a bad beta tester.
It should be mentioned somewhere that you can't create alternate profiles until you are literally in the act of commenting/posting in a group. It's not mentioned in the FAQs and I wasted a lot of time trying to find it under Account and wherever before eventually a friend explained it to me. :P
Ayyy, nice Girls With Slingshots icon!
Yeah we try to make it clear on the account page, but I think we need to take another look at the wording? What do you think?
Idk, maybe if you switched it around it might be clearer? Like,
"Whenever you participate in a new community, you can create a new username or choose an existing one."
Not a huge difference to what it says now but, personally, I find it slightly more informative in regards to where one creates a username.
Or even something like "you cannot create a new username until you are ready to use that username in a community." I remember being confused myself, thinking sure, I know I can create one on the fly when I want to comment, but I must also be able to create one here in my account settings so it's ready to go when I want to use it. It became clear after a little poking around, and I'm very comfortable with the system now, but it was definitely a bit of a barrier that first week when I was figuring things out.
I also like that you (admins) made it more clear that the first-comment/first-post decision of username will be permanent for the community. I accidentally commented first with this ID in a couple communities where I would have preferred to use my more "real-lifeish" ID had I thought it through, and now I'm stuck being a duck pirate instead. That was my fault, but I appreciate that you made the wording more clear for future newbies.
Cool, thank you for this feedback. I'll chat with Kaela about it and see what we can do with that wording :)
Hah, yeah, I had the same problem: three or four different usernames I wanted to create right off the bat, knowing I'd need them, but having to interact with the respective communities before being able to create them and fill out the profiles.
(... I guess it's one way to ensure people participate? Though unnecessary, imho.)
I find the imzy FAQ fairly helpful as it is, but I will admit that I still am not confident using imzy's markup to add images or giphy things and whatnot...
Rat cakes, I completely forgot about the FAQ. I guess the more resources, the merrier? Maybe?
Yeah, giphy eluded me as well.
The FAQ is fairly out of date at this point, because we've added a ton of stuff since writing that. It's something we need to take a look at soon.
Adding images to a post is tricky. If you want to add more than one image, for now you have to do a Text post rather than an Image post. If you want to add images to a comment, you have to go into edit mode (hitting the Aa at the bottom left corner) so you can drag images into the text box. Not intuitive!
