Pinned posts should have a clearer differentiation from the other posts in the feed

  • Feature Request

In my view, pinned posts should have a clearer differentiation from the other posts in the feed than they do now. In addition, one might consider making Pinned Notes collapsed/condensed by forced default (indirectly encouraging for descriptive and to the point Titles for the posts)?

100% agreed. The separator is very faint, so clearer differentiation on the post item itself would be very nice.

Totally agree about pinned posts needing to be more differentiated in a community feed. I'll talk to the designers about this and see if they have ideas.

Even if they were highlighted or marked in some way, that would help. I don't know about collapsing them, they're pinned for a reason, and some communities seem to only have one pinned for a day or a week. If someone were to collapse the pins to that community would they then just skip over that day/week's pin?

I guess if they have several pinned posts and they were all forcefully presented to visitors in the collapsed state, then the pinned post specifically for this week/day or whatever would not stand out other than being on top / the last one posted. But that is how it is working presently anyways, even if the posts are not collapsed. All it means is that the leaders need to make the Titles of the pinned posts to the point and informative. If the title sufficiently gives away the content, one needs to trust that the visitors themselves can decide whether it applies to them (and expand them to read it all).

Another take would be to only present pinned notes in a forced collapsed state if there are more than 1 post pinned at the same time. That way, all a community leader would have to do would be to unpin the other previously pinned posts and only leave the important one pinned. That would encourage tidyness in the community as well, seeing as having 15 pinned posts looks estethically unpleasing and defeats the purpouse of the pinning in the first place.

I think it depends on the community, really. Yeah, 15 pinned posts is annoying and not aesthetically pleasing at all. But having a welcome/introduce yourself post and an important announcement isn't unreasonable. If leaders can highlight them or mark them in some way, at least they could be differentiated so members can see what is a new pin. Oh, that bright red highlight wasn't there yesterday, what's up... Regardless of collapsed status. I often skim titles of collapsed things, and I'm on enough similar communities that even something like IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ might not get my attention because I see those all the time, and I never can tell if I've read them already.

I agree. They blend in too well with the current posts.
