A Way to Manage Your Growing Number of Communities
Inspired by this post by IFK:
/imzy/post/do_you_feel_like_imzy_has_too_many_communities
reddit (I know, stick with me here) has this function where you can group related communities together in tabs that are located off to the side of your home screen.
To keep it imzy-related, let's say I'd have one tab that grouped all the "personal communities" I follow. Then one tab that had all my LGC-Universe comms (LGC,MBC,Kindness, etc). Then one tab that had, say, pop culture or just tv-related stuff or music.
That way, instead of running through the huge feed of all your comms, you could click on the PERSONAL COMMUNITIES tab and instantly see the latest feed of just all the personal comms you've joined.
Then, click on LGC UNIVERSE and see all the latest LGC content.
Then another tab to bring you back to the latest content from ALL the communities you subscribe to.
Etceteras.
I think that would help A LOT in terms of managing a growing list of communities.

Thank you.

In keeping with the whole space-y thing, they could be called "clusters".
Ooo, community clusters. Good ol' CCs. I like it.
Yeah, we need to do this.
Yeah some way to organize our feeds would be cool for sure.
Very clever suggestion, Z. Thank you for thinking about this!
I like it. Especially since the way the feeds work take up a lot of screen real estate. It's had to be sure you've caught up on everything without checking each community individually, which would time-prohibitive.
Great point, Mimi.
I do wonder if part of what gives me anxiety is that I can only scroll about 10-12 deep into the feed before my browser memory is used up and my page reloads to the top.
Thinner feed entries would help me, too.
"Thinner feed entries", eh...? Sounds uncomfortably like fat-feed-shaming, to me...!
Can we not have a quantum of feed-entry size acceptance online...?!
There's got to be a clearer way to express what I mean.
Each feed entry has so much stuff in it that my browser can only handle a dozen before it reloads and starts me at the top again.
Yes, I do expect this to get optimized. This platform has reached a level of activity where it's easy to miss content if you're not constantly here -- which is GREAT. I've confidence this is all going to be addressed and optimized by the imzy staff.
I love your confidence and optimism.
Huh.
Is it a coincidence that optimism is such a similar word to optimize?
Sheer coincidence
I'm starting to realize how much of life is sheer coincidences.
Did you ever see Bo Burnham's answer to Conan O'Brien when Conan asked him what advice he has for people? His advice was to give up because everything is harder than you'd think and even if you work your butt off you need a lot of luck.
Coincidences are luck.
I've been unlucky in life but that's just bad luck.
NO FREE WILL!
(Or... no fate but what we make...?)
It's really, really important that people have free will.
That's why I stopped talking about it. I realized that no good can come from my talking about fate.
But I do believe that character is destiny. What we think and do creates the path for what happens to us.
You've had some bad luck too, and I only know a tiny sliver of what has happened to you. And yet, somehow you remain positive.
I missed most of the "free will" debates, I confess.
There's no point in the debates because whether or not there's free will, it's important for people to believe in free will.
It's a much much better use of time to talk about kindness, empathy, compassion for others, and self compassion. Especially self compassion.
That's a fire gif there
Yep, totally a good idea.
I want this to happen. I think it would be super useful.
Also, I like the term 'clusters', recommended by @logseman.
I concur!
MOTION PASSED: "Imzy Clusters" shall be a thing!
Next order of business: what shall we do about THE BEAST...?
The Beast of Burden?
I'm on fire recently, between the galaxies thing and this.
First. I love the clusters vocab.
Second. We do need this.
Third. In some of the early designs for this side bar, we had a counter kinda like the notification bubble but slightly different that was for new items posted in that community. I would still like something like this in the future, possibly when our main feed isn't everything and has to be more algorithmic.
