If you have never come across this book/zine/website, it's the most body-positive place on earth. I haven't been an active part of the community for several years, but when I was it was full of kind, thoughtful people with useful, practical advice. One of my favorite tips was on how to introduce someone in a body-positive way while being descriptive. 'You know my roommate, that cute, fat, anthropology major?'

This looks awesome. I've been thinking a lot about the word "fat" lately. I want to be part of the movement to take back the word, and make it just another adjective, instead of something so shameful. But part of me wonders if I'm allowed to. I've never been fat. And I worry that people might be hurt by my calling other people fat if I can't be called fat myself. I'd be willing to be, if I was fat! But I don't know if that counts for much.
It's a very hard word to reclaim, since it's always been descriptive. Some people have chosen to use fat-positive words like voluptuous instead, while some think it's really important to reclaim. If you want to reclaim it, I recommend using it in sentences like the example I gave above, where you make it clear it's a positive term as you are using it.
