Finance guy & ex-lawyer turned startup advisor
I started my career as a tax lawyer. Boy, was that ever dull. I transitioned to institutional sales, covering fixed income (credit) hedge funds, which is where I have spent most of my career. Over the past several years, I have taken on a new passion: advising startups.

That's awesome! What is your favorite type of start up to advise? I would eventually like to start my own consulting company for Public Relations.
Right now, I advise one startup, Collaborizm (www.collaborizm.com), which is an online collaborative workspace for makers/engineers, hackers & creatives. The Founder and CEO happens to be my son, Steven. It's a place for highly skilled and creative people to network and share knowledge, globally, and to build their online resumes which qualifies them to do freelance (paid) work on the platform.
My role is to advise my son and his team about legal and financial matters, e.g., I act as the intermediary between Collaborizm and law, accounting and PR firms (though we are currently doing all of our PR grassroots/internally), and I also edit most of our outgoing correspondence. I also managed our seed round we did last year, and I am currently working on organizing our next fundraising round.
That's awesome, I just checked the website out and it looks like everything is headed in a great direction! If you all ever need any assistance in PR, social media, or digital marketing aspect of things I would be glad to help. I am also starting to get into business analytics and big data to help people reach the customer more efficiently.
Thanks. Right now, we are on a very tight budget as we try to use our remaining cash to get our overall metrics to a level where we can raise a new round at a good valuation. So my son and his team are doing mostly everything now in house, with help from me and other family members, and some interns. Join Collaborizm and stay in touch - you never know - and you can display your skills on our platform and probably develop customers while you are at it. Good luck.
I wish the best of luck to you all! I just signed up and will for sure keep up in the discussion while on there.
Heya, welcome! I've found some tax law stuff to be surprisingly interesting, though I'm not waist deep in the muck of it, so it is easier for me to appreciate bits and pieces of interestingness from afar.
What sort of advising for startups do you do? I've always been a bit unclear about the role of startup advisors.

Oh, cool! Best of luck to your son and his startup :)
