Are you new to imzy? Come and say hi to the imzy community!
Hi.
Hi there! I'm shopping around for a platform to run our neighborhood forum/mailing list on. Interested in knowing if we can run Imzy on our own hosted server. We're also looking at Discourse and nodeBB.

Hi Chad, no we don't have a way for you to run our software on your servers but you're welcome to create a community here on imzy for your neighborhood.
Hi ChadV, as far as I know Imzy is not open source and not meant to be run outside this domain/server, you may want to ask this question to Imzy devs on the /imzy community.
Thanks for the insight, guys!
Our neighborhood needs something we are in full control of, so we have the freedom to be ourselves. Facebook and Nextdoor impose behavior conditions that mean we can't enjoy the open discourse we have the need and right to have. We should be able to be anonymous, and not always have to be so smarmy-nice to each other per corporate rules. We have our own style and culture. We also need smartphone app access. It would be a super plus if we can import our email archives as forum posts, too.
Our neighborhood has had a Yahoo group for decades, but the mods there censor posts and play dirty tricks to influence decisions and wage personal vendettas. We launched a Nextdoor group so we could be free to write openly again, and after we accumulated hundreds of new members, Nextdoor booted our mods off and handed the group directly to the incumbent censors of the Yahoo group!
Imagine having your Facebook fan page seized and handed to a rival. All of your writings, photos, friends, likes, and follows detached from you and credited to that other.

What happened to us was MESSED UP, and we just can't use a corporate social network again.
