Are you new to imzy? Come and say hi to the imzy community!
Hi Imzy!
Confession: I posted this in /queeries too, so if you see it twice, you might be there too ;)
Hey, I'm Lex (they/them masculine-polarised agender) and I'm a married... person ;) in my late 20s (married, I should note, to the best person in the world, but I might be biased). Data analyst and professional Excel geek by day, fandom nerd and occasional writer by night, photographer all the time (Nikon D3200 when I have it with me; Galaxy S6 otherwise; great believer in "the best camera is the one you have with you").
Introverted, medicated chronic depressive with occasional anxiety, but I try to stay positive and fight on through, supported by a truly great spouse and amazing boss (whose praises I will never stop singing IRL and occasionally on Twitter). Non-transitional at present in the medical and hormonal sense (not least because of horrible enby gatekeeping in the UK, according to the vast majority of what I've heard), but that might change in the future---it's a big world out there and you never know what might happen.
I write, but not enough; and I love to learn, so I'm very open to being introduced to new subjects and topics. Give me something to investigate and I'll go away and work out if I'm interested in it, and if I am, by heck we'll probably talk about it for hours on end. Even if we end up disagreeing, as long as we do so respectfully, might as well enjoy the debate!
I'd love to meet new friends, especially Marvel, LOTR, HP and sci-fi fans (if you remember Andromeda you're my new BFF, I'm not even kidding), folks who really enjoy using social media (Twitter and Insta are just plain fun!) to actually interact and connect, professionals in any field who love their jobs, creative and/or entrepreneurial people, folks who love learning, music, travel, adventure, and life itself... so if you think we'd get along, please feel free to get in touch!

Hello, and thank you for the welcome!
Hey welcome! Curious to hear what you're reading nowadays.
HP = The boy who lived, or HP = Lovecraft?
Boy Who Lived, in this context. I haven't read much Lovecraft, shamefully, though I'm certainly not opposed to a good bit of eldritch horror.
Hey Lex! I loved Andromeda back in the day. Are you on the Killjoys & Dark Matter train for current sci-fi?
No---please tell me more?
I loved Andromeda up to about season... three, I think? When Tyr was stripped of his bone blades and Beka got weird, I sort of checked out. But I was so into the world that had been set up---I actually do believe the chief writer left around that time, so his original vision based on Roddenberry's ideas was never carried out through to fruition, hence it getting a bit hinky. But oh, the cultures and worlds and potential!
I'm not officially admitting to anything, but I may have a breakaway AU in my head which goes off from about that point (keeping the bone blades, dammit) and spans, you know, the rest of their lives. I considered writing it at one point, but I don't have the tenacity to finish my own original WIP, never mind a ridiculously epic-length fanfic...
That's about when I stopped enjoying Andromeda as well. I should borrow my brother's DVDs and do a rewatch.
About Dark Matter and Killjoys. They're both currently airing their second seasons on Space(CAN)/SyFy(USA). Killjoys had the better first season of the two shows, but Dark Matter has always been my favourite. (Part of the Dark Matter watching experience is spot the sci-fi/fantasy cameo and Canadian Actor Bingo. [DM cameos have included Wil Wheaton, David Hewlett, Amanda Tapping, Tori Higginson, etc )

Dark Matter started out with 6 people waking up with no memories on a space ship that was about to fail. The first season goes through the set up of developing their characters.
The second seasons picks up directly where the first season left off. It's been super exciting with the exception of the episode from 2 weeks ago. I know why they used it, but I think they could have left out parts of it because it dragged so much. Also the second season has had a MAJOR budget increase from the first season. The sets are better, the VFX are better, and I'm not playing "spot the prop purchased at Dollarama".
Killjoys started out as the better show of the show. It has 2 people who are space bounty hunters, but I think it's lost a lot of pacing in the second season. I still need to catch on the last 2 episodes though.
Welcome Lex! This canon-toting, Galaxy-shooting, sci-fi fan, data analyst wannabe says hi :)
Canon?! Heathen! (But I'm sure you think the same of my Nikon-ness... Seriously though, I'm not into fan wars. I just happened to go with a Nikon and I love it; I'm not going to be petty! Photographers should unite, and all that, regardless of kit.)
Data analyst wannabe, eh? Sounds interesting. Are you studying something relevant? I learnt what I know on the job, so I'm not even really aware of any professional certification, though I wouldn't mind going for Microsoft certification and a qualification in SQL at some point.
