[poetry] there will never be a heart bigger than yours (and that is why i love you) - SteveTony

he holds fear in his heart, thinks
that his love will be the same
as his father’s:
a slow-burning wretchedness,
threatening to taint what goodness there is
in whoever loves him.

his eyes, clouded by visions of a past
still sinking its claws into his chest,
fails to see the truth of his love:
it fills this heart to the brim with affection,
fills it until it knows no loneliness,
knows no desolation from a world gone by
and lives long lost.

haunted still by the ghost of an absent father,
he does not notice that his heart is his mother’s:
always too big, too willing to break apart
just to offer itself to the gaping cracks
of another’s.

because we all know that tony inherited a little more than just maria's eyes and smile.
