UK acquaintance: The government find money for refugees but not for pensions for people like me who have worked since the age of 15. Don't get me started.
Friend of UK acquaintance: I'm in your camp, friend.
Me: I'm grateful to live in a country that finds money and time for some of the refugees, who have gone through things you and I can only imagine. I hope that in the future we can do even more.
Friend of UK acquaintance: Yes, and so am I. Our parents and ancestors made us go which I am forever grateful for. Our country has given and continues to help others so much.
Me: My country is a different one from yours, for what it's worth. I'm glad both of our countries are doing something! (I do wish yours were doing something without quite so much complaining, though.)
