Favorite Jewish bread?
Since much of Jewish life is centered around food, what's the best Jewish (or often found in Jewish homes) bread?

I wish they would invent a low carb option.
I've done a fake low-carb bagel using this recipe: http://www.mytootiefoodie.com/magic-low-carb-soft-pretzels/
It works for cream cheese and lox anyhow. You can also put them on oopsie rolls if you're lazy like I am. (Or if you're REALLY lazy, cucumbers make a good bread substitute for cream cheese and lox as well.)
I like all of those ideas. Thank you Mimi!
I do think of rye as low carb bread but maybe that's a false belief?
It's not lower carb than any other whole-grain bread, really. If you're on something like a keto diet, it's probably not worth it. South Beach it might be okay.
I'm on neither diet. I just try to be mindful of carbs and cutting most bread is a straightforward way to reduce carbs.
True story. I don't eat a lot of bread in general, but when I started keto, I found bread wasn't my main carb culprit, it was really drinks and snacks. Lemonade, milk and sweeteners in tea, the rare soda... it added a ton. And then potato chips and crackers. I do like bagels and pretzels, but those weren't my main issue, really.
Fascinating. I don't consume any of the things you mentioned except milk.
Time to phase out milk. :)
I don't drink milk. I put it in tea. I've switched to almond milk.
That's a good switch. Do you eat fruit, or notsomuch?
I'm allergic to so many fruits anyhow. I eat berries, but that's about it. I'll also eat certain citrus, but not often.
Allergic to fruit?! Oh I'm sorry. :(
Berries and an occasional citrus is good.
Not ALL fruit, just a lot of it. Like bananas, pineapple, melons, mango... the list goes on. If it sounds like it'd be good in fruit salad, I probably can't have it. Strawberries sometimes make my mouth itch and sometimes don't. Haven't figured that one out yet. Blueberries and raspberries are fine, though, so I'll stick with them.
You do fruit?
Yes, I love fruit.
I guess we don't need fruit. But I sure would miss it!
I need a gluten free version of challah. Or just let myself get sick sometimes... it's so good.

I've had a lot of luck with myjewishlearning's recipes. I haven't tried this one, but it won't hurt!
I found a place here in Los Angeles that has some too. http://delicebakery.com/CHALLAH/7-GRAIN-CHALLAH-SKU117708.html
Wonder if it's available in other cities.
I haven't tried any recipes yet so I'll give it a go! Thank you!
