5 Tips to Help You Fall in Love with Creating Again
Some days creativity comes easier than others. It's always nice when the stream is flowing and the words and colors and ideas are coming, but we all know it doesn't last forever. Sometimes you don't feel creative. Sometimes, you might even wonder if you'll ever feel that way again.
When I started writing more regularly earlier this year (specifically while working on CRFC), there were nights when I would fall asleep thinking about the next scene, and mornings when I would wake up before my alarm, itching to write more. I was in a writing flow like I'd never been in before--I managed to churn out close to 40,000 words within a few weeks.
But lately, I've noticed that gush of creative juices has turned into more of a depressing trickle. Sometimes I have to force myself to open up Novlr just to write a few more words. I think this article by writer/blogger Emily Morgan gets to the heart of some of the issues that have been blocking me lately, especially Tips #1, #2 and #4.
Once you start to see a little bit of success with your writing, it's so hard to refrain from catering to your readers' expectations and trying to guess (and produce) what you think they'll want to read, rather than write what you want to create.
I'm glad I came accross these tips today; and I'm going to try to step back and focus more on writing what makes me happy (and, at the end of the day, the stuff that was most interesting & unique--the kind of writing that brought me readers to begin with).

I read. I can't write if I don't read.
Loud music, preferably via headphones so I'm immersed in sound, helps when I'm really stuck.
Um, writing prompts. There's a reason for /100words. 😁 I haven't used it in quite a while, but The Observation Deck was helpful for a bit.
There's a good bit of advice for all aspects of life. 💙
