Sadly, not a very interesting episode for me. I feel like they really should have given more room for J'onn and M'gann's story. I so love that we finally got some Alex and J'onn scenes, though. It's been a while since they had some time together, I miss the superfamily and I want M'gann to be part of that!
For Kalex, there really wasn't enough. I do love how well Alex knows Kara and can count down to her entering a room to the second. And how when they're standing all three together talking, Kara and Alex's hands are so damn close on railing. I love that casual intimacy that it gives to their scenes.
Leslie isn't my favourite character, but then it's better than the random villains we've been getting so that's something.
Hmmmm, I think Kara needs some sister couch time tbh. Poor thing is been getting a little neglected. I mean, that works explain it? Kara's just bored out of her mind.
there was really no real kalex interaction this episode :(
But I can sort of forgive them for all the Alex and J'onn scenes we got. I missed their emotional scenes, Alex being there for him. I am VERY disappointed that we still haven't been given a proper hug between the two of them (the only one we have is from a scene in 1x20 and it's not even focused on them).
I caught the little "unintentional" hand bumping in the final Kara,Alex, Maggie scene. It happened twice, they subconsciously search each other out. I thought it was cute how Kara introduces herself to Alex and Maggie when entering Leslie's cell lol.
I actually like this episode more than 2x09. I don't mind this episode being Kara/James centric because he has gotten the least screen time out of the season 1 main cast. Mon El on the other hand should have taken a back seat most if not all of this episode.
It really bothers me when they sideline the DEO in order to push certain plot points, it's so dumb. One episode Kara is asking for Alex and the DEO to go back her up on an alien planet and the next week she says her only "partner" is Mon El, total bullshit. This is the same crap they pulled last season when they would have Kara tell every single person how much she needed them, trying desperately to prop up relationships while we all knew that the person she truly needed was Alex (which was proven/shown more than once in the back half of the season. Lets hope the same happens this time. I mean it's not that Kara doesn't need people in her life, or that they aren't important to her, it's just that when they have her telling everyone they are the most important person to her it loses a little depth, you know.
They tried to make a point of showing Kara feeling alone in the final few scenes so I hope this is all going to be brought back to Kalex at some point (last episode we saw the beginning of it when Kara wanted to hang out with Alex but showed her support even if it did hurt her deep down).
Next week looks a lot more exciting and it'll focus more on Kara, Alex, J'onn, and M'gann. And crossing my fingers for no Mon El, or romance subplots.
Yeah... In that scene, I actually expected her to say "I have Alex and DEO" and then when she said "Mon El" that seemed very out of character for me (I kind of figured that she would say, because the whole scene with James' reactions was building up for that. But, it was still OOC).
I am hoping for more Kalex down the season too... But, you know, given that everyone keeps saying how Sanvers is a done deal and writers are giving it respect and nourish it (I have no idea what that means, really) and all that, I am not really counting on that.
Well, not unless they treat it the same way they treated James and Kara last season. They were very strongly shipping it, even to the detriment of James's character, but they ended up upholding on Alex-Kara.
Gotta say that I actually liked this episode. I feel like the 'Kara not liking Mon-El that way' is setting us up for a disappointment because they are so going to hook up.
What really intrigued me is who do you think is more 'right' in this argument about being a hero? Kara or James? I'm siding with kara but I wanna reserve my comment until I hear some other people on this topic.
Yeah, totally on Kara's side and I felt so betrayed for her. It doesn't feel like James has the most altruistic of reasons to be the Guardian. He could help in more concrete ways but he chooses to just beat up people. That's... more of an anger issue and a lashing out at the frustrating reality that he will NEVER BE LIKE SUPERMAN OR SUPERGIRL.
Also, I'm really disappointed in Winn. Don't get me wrong, I like him, but all that's been happening is him and James bro-ing up and STEALING GOVERNMENT RESOURCES TO BE VIGILANTES. I want to smack both of them for being idiots. I also want Winn to have some REAL consequences of WITHHOLDING INFORMATION FROM THE GOVERNMENT AGENCY HE WORKS FOR. The thing that irks me so much is the sheer lack of professionalism. Winn is like, "James, buddy, let's show them that we can do it! Cuz I know where Livewire is and let's stick it to Supergirl!"
Fuck. OFF.
I dunno. I'm getting kinda mad at Winn. And James is just a write-off for me. I don't really like him anymore.
Yes! Unfortunately, I think the show is on James' side. May be it is their way of developing a James-Kara series long relationship with Monel just being a temporary thing.
James' motivation could be that he thinks Kara broke up with him because he is human and not a hero.
It's all blah for me; and I was really surprised when Winn kept info from Kara. It didn't even make sense. I mean, Live Wire is not a regular Joe who steals drugs. She was meant to be Supergirl's. Besides, what is the goal here? Is the goal defeating a baddie or proving who is better? This is not a competition; or it shouldn't be. People's lives are at stake. I don't think Kara has ever treated it like that.
I feel like Kara's being undermined by the writers. It's like "no Kara, you're not competent, you need to listen to these guys cuz they can help you" and that bothers me to no end.
This show used to be about Supergirl and now all these guys suddenly are like, we can be superheroes too! I love J'onn and wished the showcased him more, and I love him, Alex, and Kara's relationship.
Well! I am going to pretend--in fact I am sure--that Alex gave Maggie that win. No way, she wouldn't have known that Kara would have let Livewire go. (Oh and what is with the disgusting ice-cream comment. I didn't understand that. Does she dislike ice-cream now?).
There were so few Kalex moments. :(
Although, there were some great Alex and J'onn moments and one great Alex, J'onn and Kara moment. I am so very glad that Alex showed J'onn the way. Atleast, that is consistent.
And I hated Winn saying "Always" to Kara. I am going to take Kara's reaction as rejecting that bit as well. Kara takes that support only from Alex.
What I loved though is something that I have always loved about this show. Kara talking people into being decent rather then letting her punching do the talking.
I officially don't want Mon El; even as a sibling; not when he takes so much of the time.
And I am worried for the future what with all those comments about:
Valentines day and Sanvers; oh and Kevin Smith talking about the ships.

I am on Kara's side.
Even if James keep saying that he is doing this to be a hero, I am not convinced of his reasons.
And Kara being afraid for his safety is both natural and very Kara-like. That James doesn't understand her fear or her point is not in his favour.
Not to mention as she said: There are many other ways to be a hero (for the record, I thought you were heroes way before this).
The show seems to be on James' side though.
