A rubbish bin for Kara Zor-El/Alex Danvers shippers.
Supergirl Monday (s02x13)
One day I will remember what format I used for title of the post, but today is not the day.
You know what's up. Let's hear your Kalex thoughts!

After calming down from the rage this episode caused me and watched it again (The things I do for Kara and Alex) I noticed some things about Kara that might explain her behavior, at least in fanon. A Kalex headcanon/fan wank if you will lol.
In 2x11 we saw Kara's desperate attempt at trying to win Alex back because she felt she was losing her to Alex's new relationship with Maggie. We have never seen Kara like this and we know that Alex has dated before, but Maggie is different because she actually means something to Alex. At the end of the same ep. we have Alex suggest that Kara actually does like Mon El (I will never forgive this Alex) and Kara after rejecting him more than once takes Alex's suggestion and runs with it, full speed ahead. It's really jarring how Kara went from zero to 100 in regards to Mon El and the only explanation there is is that she is trying to have what Alex has, or that she is trying to move on. She still feels like Alex is leaving her behind and having someone for herself makes her feel like maybe she wont be all alone so she is settling for Mon El, hard.
This episode we heard Kara talk about how love is "not making demands of someone...putting someone else's needs above your own" in a scene right after telling Maggie to put Alex first (the scene starts with both of them searching for Alex - we know Maggie was there to apologize for her reaction but we never find out exactly why Kara needed to see Alex - and ends with Kara making sure to tell Maggie that she should put Alex first. As Kara would do) and Maggie listens. She goes from this description of love to accepting Mon El once more, despite the fact that this entire episode he has proved he is the total opposite of what Kara expects from love. Kara is settling for Mon El. Not because she can't have James (she's the one that turned him down. In fact she turns away all her suiters) but perhaps because she doesn't have Alex.
I think it'd be a good thing to explore in canon. Not in the Alex-Kara way; but in the my friends are away doing their own thing, My Alex has no time for me any more and she feels I should focus on Mon El, so let me try it way. As in, she is compensating for her loneliness rather than feeling an actual connection.
That may also be why they had so much focus on her approving Mon El being agreeable about Alex's sexual orientation in EP12? (May be this one is only for fan fic).
The more I see the show, the more I feel like Kara is in love with Alex (whichever way you would like to see it) and Alex is unaware of it. And is trying to be perfect.
I was actually too disappointed this last episode (in disproportion to all reason, since it was obviously going to be this way) to even fanwank it and try and write something.
Oh and I think Kara came searching for Alex to just see her before she went off to kill herself. I mean, she couldn't have known positively that Mr.Mxy wouldn't just let her die. And she needed to see Alex in case it was the last time <sort of>. If that makes sense. (That makes perfect sense to me even as a sister; because even in a platonic show way, I think Alex is the most important person to Kara.)
Edit: I have not seen trailers, so I don't know what next episode is about.
As with last week's episode, I wish there had been a lot more Kalex, but the one scene with Alex asking Kara for advice about Maggie had some profound implications.
Just the fact that Alex went to Kara speaks volumes, and of course Kara being willing to listen and help. Kara always puts Alex's happiness and well being first, and Alex knows this. Alex knows that she can trust Kara with her heart. It's quite telling that Alex doesn't first discuss her feelings with Maggie when she's right next to her. This scene is also a potent illustration of Kara's statement later in the episode that loving someone means putting their needs above your own. The episode itself explores what it means to really love someone, and what true love is.
Here are some additional observations regarding Kalex from this episode, especially what I see as possible directions for Kara and Alex going forward:
First, let me say that my intent is not to bash Maggie. However, with this episode, the show has now given us three different occasions where Kara shows far more concern and sensitivity toward Alex's feelings than Maggie does. I wonder if the show will revisit this dynamic later.
It seems the writers have been slowly yet steadily driving a wedge between Kara and Alex this season. For example, aside from being current romantic interests, Maggie and Mon-El have now firmly come between Kara and Alex. Admittedly I'm biased since Kalex is my OTP for the show. Still, I'm very curious about where these threads will lead.
The conflicts between Kara and Alex have been simmering for a while. It looks like they're going to reach the boiling point in the not too distant future, as the trailer for next week's episode seems to indicate.
A few months before this season started, I came across an article online that said Kara and Alex's relationship (as sisters) was going to be "stronger than ever". Whatever happens with the romances, I do hope Kara and Alex will be the heart of the show again. They're much better when they're together, and so is the show.
I've been doing so much ranting on Tumblr, I need to get it out there so that I can come here and only post good things, or mostly good things lol.
I was actually not expecting any scenes between Kara and Alex this episode so I was pleasantly surprised with the one scene they had (even if it was to talk about their romance. For this episode I will let it slide since it was a Valentines day ep.). We got to see them in a room full of red roses and drinking wine together just cause they felt like it. I'll take it as their subtle V-Day celebration XD
I'm going to respond to your points one by one because I have some thoughts.
1 - I'm not the biggest Maggie fan but I have not gotten the impression that Maggie has been insensitive towards Alex's feelings. This episode Maggie revealed that she lied about her coming out because she didn't want Alex to feel afraid of coming out to her family, she expressed wanting her to have a better experience which shows a lot of care from her part. She also went to apologize to Alex without anyone telling her to do so, Kara only suggested she put aside her negative feelings towards the holiday and compromise for Alex (just as Alex has done for her) I'll talk about this in relation to Kara in another post. What I did get was that Alex is still trying to be "perfect" and has now added perfect girlfriend to her list. In their first scene Alex didn't say how much she was looking forward to Valentines and instead joked about the holiday to gauge Maggie's reaction, when Maggie said she hates it she "agreed" in order to fit in with her. Actually Maggie saying "I knew we were right for each other Danvers" paired with Alex's conflicted expression suggests they might not be right. For what reasons, we have yet to find out. If anything suggests 2 characters aren't right for each other is one of them saying that they are in the middle of an awkward moment (which Kara did at the end of the episode with Mon El -"I was lying about us not being a good match"- after they spent the entire episode fighting). Maggie does seem to have a short fuse though ("you get one" in 2x09 after Alex breaks up with her in the middle of a freak out, although it's understandable. Alex did exaggerate), although it seems to be triggered by past bad/traumatic experiences. The way I am seeing Alex and Maggie's relationship is kind of like they are helping each other become good romantic partners but maybe not necessarily to end up together? (I know I'm setting myself up for disappointment cause I doubt Maggie is going anywhere). But all in all, at least Sanvers is an actual healthy relationship as opposed to Karamel.
They have been separating them a lot this season. They are essentially in their own separate worlds. I think we are meant to believe they resolved this at the end of 2x11 with Alex reassuring Kara that she is not losing her "ever", and that she will "always" be there for her. That "always" though has been a recurring theme between them this season and the more they say it the more I expect something bad to happen (even if it doesn't last long). Their first fight of the season was in 2x02 and it ended with Alex's "I'm just better when we're together" (which they haven't been much), and Kara's "I need you". So are they leading somewhere with this? I expect and hope so but with the track record this season has I am also afraid it wont.
I'm worried how this conflict in the next episode will come about. And I hate that it has Mon El in the middle of it (god forbid we go without him in one episode).
Good point about Maggie wanting to spare Alex the tremendous pain she went through because of her family's rejection. Maggie's "you get one" statement to Alex in 2x09 is still on my mind; that really gave me pause. Maggie didn't ask Alex if she was okay or if Kara was okay. Or maybe we're supposed to assume she did in one of those "missing scenes".
I will say this week's episode did a good job of showing that Maggie is carrying a lot of pain from her past (as is Alex). They can definitely help each other heal and grow, but I hope they won't be endgame. However, Sanvers is definitely far more realistic--and believable--than Karamel.
I totally agree that Kara is settling for Mon-El, most likely because she feels she's lost Alex. Like you said, Kara goes from zero to 100. And we're supposed to believe that this is real because Kara says so. Actually, it's like Mon-El is some kind of consolation prize almost. Kara says in this episode that no one can be forced to love another. She needs to accept the fact that she can't force herself to love someone she doesn't.
Maybe I'm being foolish, but I still hold a tiny glimmer of hope that all the separation between Kara and Alex this season is actually leading somewhere positive ultimately. The love between Kara and Alex (in any form) is too beautiful and too deep to throw away.
@rensoul, @venus_kareng. Ah! Both your posts got me back to hoping!
I have not thought of Maggie as uncaring; in fact, I found her to be too perfect in terms of how she reacts to Alex's problems and needs when Alex actually says anything about them. Like when she asks Alex to go and talk to Kara in Episode 11, was it? (Seems too far away).
And she was very kind in the beginning when Alex came out to her. In the context of this last episode where she talks about what she went through, she has been really kind.
For me, it is her sheer perfection that makes her seem slightly unreal.
And yeah... Alex is still trying to be perfect.
But, she does seem hot tempered at times. I have not yet been able to figure out if it is an actual character trait or just the writer's way of adding drama.
And Venus, I'd just like to point out that they have used "always" with Winn and Kara (Winn saying it to Kara) and someone else (I don't remember who) as well. Kind of diluting it so-to-speak. But, may be I am seeing goblins (?) where there are none.
I've noticed them use the "always" with other characters but notice it's a one time deal while with Kara and Alex it's recurring. They've said it about 3 or 4 times this season.
I think Maggie's short temper might be an actual character trait. Remember when Maggie about all the things her ex-girlfriend said about her as reasons why she was breaking up with Maggie? Based on that description this fits.
Hmm... Lets me keep hope alive. :)
Okay! Wow! The comments just keep decreasing. :((
Anyways... This episode did for me what the rest of the episodes hadn't done so far. Almost left me in tears at the state of the show and wishing that I had never watched Season 1 for then, I would not have had so much investment in the show. And wouldn't keep getting disappointed.
And then, I felt like a 12-year old for taking a show so much to heart. ;-/
Anyways, I liked the part where they connected what J'onn says about Martian culture to how Kara defeats the fifth dimensional suitor in the end.
Oh.. and the Winn part was sort of nice...
And best of all and sort of sad was how Kara comes searching for Alex before going on her near-suicide mission. And how disapproving she is of Maggie in that scene. <I feel like they cut out some part where Alex is sad about Maggie's reaction her efforts.>
Also, my feelings towards Mon El has changed since last week. I am starting to dislike him now. (I think it is inversely proportional to the screen time Alex is getting as Kara's backup--rather than the lovesick gay sister who has forgotten all about her Kara). I wish I didn't because I'd rather blame the writers and show runners than the actors and characters who don't have much power anyways. Oh, and I am feeling similarly towards Maggie.
Does Eliza send Valentine's day card to Kara too?
Forgot to add that I actually Missed James.
well, to be honest, I did enjoy last weeks episode tremendously. I really did like the Villain - please don't let me write his name. He was kinda funny, and I have to say I really liked how he treated mon-ew. I also did like the interaction between Alex and Kara. It just felt like old times. Although I would like to have a Kalex moment that will not end in a Alex gushing about Maggie or Kara gushing about mon-ew thingie. what I absolute hated was the end between mon-ew and Kara. I rather would have liked to see some more of Maggie and Alex....This relationship is still something I don't get (Kara and mon-ew).. but overall it was funny and entertaining. At least for me. But still not too much Kalex moments.
some nice moments this ep
Alex going to Kara for advice on her relationship with Maggie about Valentine's Day was good! like all the times Kara would get advice from Alex last season. with all the flowers and wine it did look like a date (especially if you watch without sound lmao).
Kara's so happy and supportive and attentive when Alex is talking about Maggie not liking V-Day. I love that we got to see Kara being there for Alex and then later when Kara talks to Maggie about it, telling her it 'means something to Alex'. I also quite like that they were both looking for Alex (I think at one of the labs?? because Alex is a nerd), though I would like to know where Alex was...
Alex thanking Kara for listening and being there for her! I loved that part. if only 'Parasite' didn't interrupt then we could have had just Alex and Kara drinking wine and talking
like they should every epwould've loved a reunion scene after Kara gets rid of Myxltplkkyc (don't know how to spell, too lazy to look for it). Alex probably had full confidence that Kara would succeed but she'd still worry
The lab is Alex's place. Remember how Kara said to Barry "my sisters lab..." So cute.
You know it's a nice juxtoposition of Kara telling Alex to stay in the apartment as she leaves to deal with Parasite and Alex actually listened (which she usually doesn't when it comes to her safety but whatevs lol) as opposed to Mon El who never listenes to Kara and just messes things up or gets in the way.
