Holiday/Giftmas Knitting 2016!

Let's talk about Holiday/Giftmas knitting! Have you started? Are you behind already? Are you still in the planning stages?
I'm currently working on Purl Soho's Classic Cowl in Cedar House Yarns Old Growth Worsted in the color Oyster. It's a really sumptious yarn and a really fantastic pattern. I mean, it's brioche, where could you possibly go wrong? I'm planning on a knitting a second identical one in the same yarn, color called Twilight.
After that... I have at least two more people I'd like to knit something for, but haven't quite decided what yet. I'll get around to that part after I finish the second cowl.
Let's help keep each other on track-- Post your progress! <3

I've finished 3/7 gifts, so I'm almost there! I have WIP socks on the needles for my mother, plus two other pairs of socks to knit. And maybe a crochet mermaid blanket, if I have the time. I'd like to finish all of the socks in Nov and have Dec to make the blanket, but I'm not sure if that's how it will work. I have other things to knit too. They're just not Christmas gifts :/ (three baby blankets -- two of which are crocheted -- and some baby socks)
What an ambitious to-do list. I could never get that many things finished that fast!
I likely won't finish them all!
I am not that fast at knitting. I have to start very early. I just finished three vests for grandchildren for Christmas. I started them way last spring so I would get them done in time.
I've mostly stopped knitting holiday gifts... i've made way too many ugly and embarrassing things in my more enthusiastic days, so I kind of feel like i need to cool it for a while. plus even the good things i've made didn't really seem to be appreciated. but i am knitting "viking" hats for husband and baby for halloween :) husband requested it and has watched all the progress so i know it'll be loved instead of... tolerated. otherwise i'm mostly just knitting for myself anymore!
I only knit for a select few members of my family now. They have to have proven themselves knitworthy. Everyone else gets purchased items! :
Hand knitted items should only go to those who appreciate them. Too much work goes into them to give them to someone who won't enjoy them.
That's the idea! The only other reason someone gets something knitted is if I like just really wanted to make the item, but wouldn't use it myself. >.>
I started my knitting back in March. :) I have the Song of the Sea cowl for my sister finished, as well as a pair of socks for my dad. My mom's socks are 3/4 done. I'm working on a pair of plain vanilla socks for my best friend, then have to do a pair for my co-worker, then a hat for my boss. I think that's all. I bought yarn for a sweater for my husband, but I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen.
Some things I make clearly as gifts like a pair of socks for my younger niece. But a lot of stuff I don't make with a recipient in mind. We have our familiy holiday meeting on the first advent weekend. Then I show what I have available (mostly smaller projects like socks, marketbags, cowls) and they can pick something they like or perhaps they want something in another color or size.
That saves me these holiday projects with dooming deadlines ;)
That's sort of the idea with the cowls, although I'm not sure if I have it in me to knit a second one... Sort of looking at this http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cropped top for my younger sister instead, she looooves trendy cropped tops!
Looks nice and a fast knit.
I am soooooo behind so behind so behind. I was going to get a set of placemats done for a friend of mine whose hands don't let her knit on smaller needles and I am sooooo behind. Also on the winter gear I was going to knit for my household. Oops.
yassss I'm finished! I'm super happy with it, I just have to weave and block. Now onto the crop top!
I'm making a loop scarf in the most gorgeous multicolour yarn! I'm hoping it'll work out - the yarn's not the right size as intended in the tutorial for the scarf, but it was just SO PRETTY I couldn't resist. If it doesn't work I'll just make something else with it!
A scarf should be fine in your gorgeous yarn. Pretty yarn can "make " the scarf.
