ART BLOCCCCK
Hello! I have been following you for years now :)
I just wanted to ask something.
When starting a piece do you ever draw a couple of circles in a thumbnail box and just decide "Today is not the day"
I've been feeling like this for a good long while now and I wanted to hear some of the ways you've been able to power through it. I know you talked about it a few times but it never hurts to retouch the topic after a while

Great question, saved for a future show : )
Oh wow thanks!
If you're having a hard time getting started, perhaps spend 30-60 minutes doing a photo study? Or work on a study for the day? It's still improving your skills, but it's giving the creative side of the process a little break while you warm up your technical skills. Sometimes when I'm having art-blocky days I'll just go find a photo and start drawing that.
Depending on what it is, I plow through it and draw anyways. When I'm in an art block I try to experiment more with technique (like a different painting style or with traditional media instead of digital), because if I find something I really enjoy that I didn't know about before, it can help get you out of a block. If that doesn't work or you don't feel like doing that either, force yourself to stop thinking about the outcome and just draw. I really like figure drawing for example, so I would go on QuickPoses or Pixelovely and do some 1-2 minute poses for about 10 minutes everyday. It doesn't matter how "pretty" or "ugly" they come out, and even though its not for very long, it gets you drawing and moving your hand. I also agree with megillakitty about doing photo studies.
I know I go through this a lot. It usually happens in the sketch phase. I feel as if its not going to turn out good. My only advice is push through it and by the time you're done, you'll think it actually turned out better than expected.
