Hey there! I have been a viewer for about a month now, and just watched your refining sketches video. I have always wondered why you haven't just created your basic sketches, and then just go over them with a pen tool of sorts? what's the difference?

The short answer is that he could, in fact he does it for this piece https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFxDFSFqWYc

I think the main reason he doesn't do it most of the time is because he likes the feeling of his lines when he refines them rather than draw over them. I've noticed with my own drawings that sometimes when you draw over it with a pen tool you can get so caught up in the accuracy of the lines that you end up losing the feeling you had before.

I think it's mostly a stylistic choice. If you want clear and crisp lines like an anime for example then it's probably better to draw over it, but if you like the way the lines add feeling to the piece or you're not too concerned with having crisp lines then it might be better to just refine the sketch instead.
