\ posing.
Hey guy i'm new to art forums but please go easy on me. I have been practicing drawing for a little under a year and i'm having a hard time with when making basic posing even if i can get the movement down having the characters shoulders and or torso positioned correctly. For example if the pose is showing the back i may end up not correctly showing it or in a pose where the staring point of one of the limbs is not visible. This has been slowing me down any one have some tips to help.

Hello everyone I'm so happy to be part of this community and so excited to learn from everyone here not the best but sure want to get better
Life drawing! There are probably life drawing sessions that happen in your area on a regular basis. These sessions are invaluable, not just because it's some of the best anatomy practice you can get but also because the other artists will be around to give you tips as you go.
You can also find lots of pictures of people in various poses, like a "pose pack" on DeviantArt or something similar. Take your time and look at how the bones and muscles work. Maybe draw over the tops of the pictures first, then draw separately from them.
And lastly, perhaps more specifically to your problem...when you are sketching out a body in a pose, draw "through" the body. What I mean is, if a shoulder is on the back side of the body and you can't see it, draw it anyway. It will help you place the rest of the anatomy correctly, and then you can just erase the lines you don't need later.
Good luck!
thank you
Hi! Welcome to the art forums :D Although this is more of a community than forum, still, welcome! As for your problem, I think you may need a better time looking at the big picture. When you draw your poses, do you do a rough sketch of it and just let yourself think without thinking too hard? If not, you should try it. I suggest doing gesture drawings! Here are a few YouTube links that will help with gesture:
I understand you've been drawing for a little under a year, so definitely, studying and practicing on your anatomy is a good way to learn to draw poses as well. You should try to learn to understand how the human body works. But like I said, gesture should help you with poses in general and help you ease in. Also, remember that you are drawing in a 3D space.
I hope that helps! Sorry if it's a little vague :'D
thanks this is I'll try this in the morning
No proble, glad it may help ^^
I tend to do rough sketches haven't really made a finished piece yet though but i do think that i tend to overthink a bit.
Personally i think my biggest problem is what comes after the gesture.
Ah gesture isn't ever meant to be a finished piece (I mean you could go on with it but yeah) Just think of gesture of a way of loosening yourself up and letting yourself not overthink. It'll probably help your mind to see how a pose would be rather than think though all these details that might clunk up your head. Anatomy IS important, but movement and getting a natural feel is important as well
Also, don't forget to let yourself make lots of mistakes. Perhaps you overthink because you're scared it won't come out right, but it's okay to make those mistakes to learn. You don't learn being 100% perfect at something.
Let me know if you have any ideas to help me wit this.
