Seeing your character in 3D
Hi Kienan! First, thank you so much for your tutorials, I've managed to improve my digital art so well lately thanks to them.
So lately, I've started teaching a few friends on how to draw with decent success. But one thing I'm struggling to explain is how to teach them to see their character in 3D to better understand how light is interacting with objects. It's something that has always come natural to me and I also learned from life drawing sessions, but that option isn't available to my friends over the internet and I'm not sure how I can teach them this skill because I just see it.
Thank you so much for your time and your tutorials!

References References References and... more..... References!
Also not being able to explain something most of the time means that You don't fully understand it either "no that's not an offense, no you do not need to EXACTLY understand how things work to be a great artist"
Even Kienan himself is struggling while drawing things with lighting from different angles.
something that brings us to my first point... REFERENCES!
finding the correct references it's an art itself.
Sidenote: If only my friends were interested in art like yours
Keep it up mate!
Yep! Maybe try getting an object that they can also get (like all get the same action figure or something), then have them move a light around it so they can see how the lights and shadows work together to create depth.
idd an action Figure would be even better. I must purchase one soon as well!
Seems like understanding the basics of perspective may help. And even some basic blind contour line sketching could also help to see things as they are instead of what your brain is telling you it looks like.
From classes I had taken throughout school, this was also an issue many had. They would try to draw things the way our brains think it should be when that's not really the case. (Blind contour)
That's my two cents. And my name is not Kienan. :D
