Thoughts about live chat in communities
A few days ago, @Dan asked if we would like community chat rooms and something he called a "generic chat room." I don't understand what a "generic chat room" is and asked about it, but haven't seen a response. (That doesn't mean that there wasn't a response, because I'm having trouble following the live chat comments for Dan's post.)
At any rate, I thought I would share my thoughts about live chat in Imzy communities, and see if other people want the same thing.
As someone who has run a weekly Twitter chat for four years, has a FB community for that chat, and started an Imzy community for members of that chat, I am excited about the idea of also being able to have a community live chat room on Imzy, especially since I'm concerned about the future of Twitter. This chat is a "come one, come all" sort of thing, so I would want anyone on Imzy to be able to see and join it. (I'd also love the ability to banish trolls and chat-jackers, which I don't have on Twitter.)
I have another FB community that I think would be happier on Imzy -- if I can get them to try it -- because many of them are very concerned about their privacy, and I think Imzy protects it well. If this group wants live chat, they would like private live chat, held behind the walls of a private community.
A chat post would definitely not do what I'm thinking; a chat room would be more like it. (I'm flashing back to IRC chat rooms in the '90s!)

Hey, I love the chat ideas, but they are breaking my phone. Chat is laggy or doesn't display, and when I try to reply, the iPhone app crashes/ shuts down sometimes.
Hey! So, I think when you see our redesign of chat posts and new way to view all of your chat posts you will understand how you can use them for what you want to do. I'm optimistic that it will give you what you're looking for.
Once we release this (it should be in the next week or two), we are going to start considering a generic chat room solution.
Dan -- What do you mean by "generic" chat room?
When I hear this I think of the Leader Chat for the communities today. 1 chat room that everyone can be apart of, and isn't related to any one post but the community as a whole :)
Sounds impressive. I can't wait to see what you guys come up with.
