Movie recommendation time!
I was thinking today about how much I love the movie 'Laggies,' but it was sheer chance I happened to see it with my sister.
What are some awesome movies that you love, but that people may not have heard about?

Tin man - a tv mini series with three parts each about two ish hours long. It's a complete reboot to the wizard of oz and probably one of my favorite movies, it makes some subtle nods to the old movie but could still be just as good as a standalone, if you have a few nights (or one really good day) to set aside for it it's totally worth a watch.
Mr. Nobody - also one of my all time favorite movies, it follows the story of a 100 and some old man who is the last naturally born human on earth. He reflects back on his life and the choices he made and looks at what things could have been if he had made different one's. Also an absolutely excellent example of non-linear storytelling and ends it off with a double twist which I won't spoil. The one thing you should know going into this is that it's the old man looking back on his life.
Snowpiercer - an action about a group of underclass people who rebel against the upperclass on a train that's going around the world after an ice age, the acting and idea are both phenomenal and the cinematography also has some shining moments as well.
And finally about a boy - a rom com about a boy whose mother attempts suicide and he decides he needs to find her someone special. It takes a really good look at depression although a lot of those scenes might be missed if you don't know much about it.
Also, sorry if this was too long, I'm kinda a movie nerd...oopsie
These all look super cool! Thanks :) not too long a list :)
Tin Man is the one with Zooey Deschanel, right? I thought that was like a sequel / spin off.
Yeah, although I'm pretty sure it wasn't a sequel, but perhaps I'm wrong.
There was definitely a connection to the original from what I remember. I thought the whole premise was that everything has changed there since the events of the original movie? Been a while since I saw it though.
Weird!!
Snowpiercer used to be on Netflix that's the only reason I saw it. Don't know if it still is. At first I thought it was gonna be cheesy but it was really good. It features the ever lovely Tilda Swinton...
Snowpiercer was fantastic - although I feel like there should be a warning about the extreme violence/themes. I found it a bit difficult to stomach, although I did see it three times, one of them in theatres in its short and limited theatrical release in North America.
I don't remember much from Mr Nobody but I remember that I did enjoy it very much!

I love kung fury!!!
One of my all time favorite movies is called The Brothers Bloom. Many people I mention it to have not heard of it, but it may just be that I am talking to the wrong people. I love this movie. It has Mark Ruffalo, Adrien Brody and Rachel Weisz. It is about two brothers who have made it in life by being con men. One brother is tired of it while the other seems to find meaning in trying to pull off the perfect con - one in which everyone gets exactly what they wanted. Fun, a little quirky, and romantic of both the world and between people.
I have heard of that! I don't think I ever saw it. Thanks for the mention!
We stumbled across the final girls in our local video store and rented it. Was awesome. Check the imdb link I popped in here to see if it's right for you. PG13 horror movie with tropes in all the right places. Haha
Most of the other stuff I like is a bit over the top... So I'll try to keep my recommendations on the mellow side haha.
I like over the top stuff some times!
That looks neat!
Two of my favorite lesser known movies are animated: Persepolis, based on the graphic novel of the same name by Marjane Sarapti, and Song of the Sea, which is more geared towards children but is so beautifully animated and a joy to watch. Persepolis is in French and a lot heavier themes/more adult. I like cartoons a lot. There are others I would recommend but those were the first that came to mind.
Midnight Diner is a Japanese live action movie based on the manga of the same name. I saw it once as an in-flight movie and thought it was pretty good. It's sort of an episodic slice-of-life story. Nothing much really happens, but the interactions among the actors is pretty great, and as a whole it's pretty heartwarming.
Another good lesser known film is Baby Steps. It's a comedy/drama about a gay Taiwanese American man named Danny trying to have a child with his white partner, Tate, via surrogacy. Meanwhile, he also has to deal with his meddlesome, grandchild-crazy Taiwanese mother, who flies in from Taipei once she hears about Danny's plans. I saw it when it was shown as part of the SF International LGBT Film Festival. It's a really great movie. The jokes are hilarious, but the film is also very touching and has a great message about family and acceptance.
Midnight diner sounds perfect for me! I love slice of life
