Spirit of the Season - Osaka prefecture, Japan

Hatsumode time! This photo is of a (Shinto) shrine within walking distance of our house, taken in the early evening yesterday (January 1st) with everyone continuing to line up to pay their respects to the local kami for the first shrine visit of the new year. This is a very important custom in Japan and is a significant part of the traditions carried out here at this time of the year. 明けましておめでとうございます🎍⛩ Happy New Year! By the Japanese calendar, the year is now 平成 (Heisei) 29.

Lovely picture!
Thank you thank you!
明けましておめでとう! Did you go as well, or did you end up waiting for a later date? The queue looks long!
あけおめ! 今年もよろしくね💚
Not long at all! Although omg Kansai people are so SLOW. With that number of people in Tokyo, we would have been done in under 10 minutes, but we ended up being there for about half an hour, lol. Actually we plan to hop over to Fushimi Inari Taisha tomorrow, which is bound to be crazy busy, but we're mostly going for the atmosphere and food X)
Heh, maybe people just want to pay their respects properly! Do I dare wish for a second post if you do end up going to Fushimi Inari Taisha? : ]
Can't promise anything much but I'll definitely be taking my camera along, so I'll try!
Great photo!
Thank you!
Awesome pic. Happy Year of the Rooster. Although by the Chinese accounting, we won't get there until the 28th. ;-)
Happy, er, end of the Year of the Monkey! This period before the LNY always feels like a bit of a slightly awkward limbo to me re: year-changes, haha. Thank you! :)
Beautiful!
Thank you! I hope you can come visit someday :D
I really want to!!! It's the first international place on my list :D
