Passport to have new option for trans travellers, justice minister says
Transgender travellers will soon have another option to tick off on their passport other than "male" or "female." Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould said the government is working to update its gender identity policies right across federal departments, and they will include a revamped travel document.

Should read "Nonbinary travellers". I hate it when headlines like this make it sound like governments will require trans people to mark themselves out as such. For one, in the current political climate it's kind of terrifying, but it also makes it seem like governments who are trying to be inclusive to nonbinary people are throwing binary trans people under the bus, and we get the flak for it =\
Right? When Ontario announced it would be removing the gender/sex identifier from driver's licenses my mom was one of those people who took to blaming trans* folks for making it harder now to get a passport (which led to one of the very few fights I've ever gotten into with her), and balked at the idea that the feds should do away with requiring that information for their documentation, too. And now they're trying to make things more inclusive by changing the choices to Male, Female, and Other, as if that won't further alienate trans* and non-binary folks.
I get that international law requires states to include gender or sex on passports but if the Trudeau government actually gave a damn about us they'd be working to get that changed. Figures, they have billions to spend on lawyers to fight the UN so they can continue poisoning Indigenous peoples but won't devote a nickel to combat thee anti-trans* ordinance that exists in international law.
