Conlangery: Eileci
Figuring Out
How does this language handle gender? And while we're at it, number. The first words in this language I encountered are identifiers:
- Eileci - the name of the Clans themselves, used instead of the word Clans when Eileci refer to themselves, even in other languages. Which means, they may be neglecting grammar they'd use in their own language.
- valla haraise - the name of "youth in the window", a specific biological period in their lives. Valla and valla haraise continue undeclined for number or gender and the term is also frequently used to refer to people in the category regardless of what language is being spoken.
The first word for military leaders I encountered was declined for both number and gender but clearly defaulted female. Which means number and gender are a thing and I'm not sure how much so yet. So here's a post for dumping observations on the issue.
Definitions
- kulitena - feminine, military commander/general (plural form is applied to mixed gender groups, female groups, and sometimes male groups, but not usually)
- kulitenir - masculine, military commander/general
- asher - masculine, sworn or pledged (plural form is applied to mixed gender groups, male groups, and sometimes female groups, but not usually)
- ashil - feminine, sworn or pledged
- eileci - clans, applied to everyone (seems to be both noun and adjective, though this could be mixed language phenomena)
- ananti - name of a particular world, applied to everyone (seems to be both noun and adjective, though this could be mixed language phenomena)
- anantea - adjective, of Ananti, applied to everyone (sometimes ananti is used and sometimes anantea)
