Life Cycle of a Christmas Orange

From day one to oops I left it in my lunch bag too long.

Any of you mastered the one peel peeling of these little buggers? Took me forever to get good at that!

Agreed with @Mimiheart, the easy-peel nature of Mandarin oranges make them the superior variety :D

I do love putting an orange in the bottom of my friends' Christmas stockings :)

I totally got an orange in my stocking every year as a kid. Not sure why because that inevitably meant orange peels all over my bed as soon as I woke up.

Christmas orange? This is a thing?

I feel I have so much to learn about this holiday that surrounds me yearly.

Certain oranges are so much easier to peel than others. Mandarin oranges peel ridiculously easily. We had two trees at my house growing up. One peeled easily, one didn't. I hated when we got them mixed up.

I'm pretty sure "Christmas Orange" is just branding for Mandarin oranges. They usually show up in stores around the holidays.

      • MimiheartDec 06, 2016 at 12:16 PM

Weird lands where people buy oranges.

    • TheLizardQueenDec 06, 2016 at 12:26 PM

Haha yeah they slap a "christmas" label on them. Fella and I actually buy Mandarin oranges year round. ❤

I'm actually not a big christmas person in reality but I'm being inundated with festive season ideas right now and I thought it would be fun to draw stuff surrounding my childhood experiences with the holiday.

I love Christmas oranges! I always had them as a kid too. Also, during the rationing of WWII "special" fruits like citrus were really hard to come by (due to the Germans bombing the supply boats...) so my dad, born in 1930, would always be really, really enthusiastic about the Christmas orange :^)

Oh and the whole reason I wanted to reply to this post in the first place: I love the drawings! They made me giggle. Very accurate.

That's a cool little historical tidbit too. Thanks Pipsy-pops!

I don't eat oranges because I can't stand chewing the white interior skin. [laughs]

Ah yes! It's called pith which coincidentally is the same noise I make when it gets in my mouth...
