I've crossed the macramé line

So. My trip to IKEA was most thrilling. And even though I was crazy enough to go there on Black Friday (in Canada), it was ultra smooth and easy. I went in the evening, and while it was busy, it wasn't completely nuts or anything. The cashier told me it was hectic in the morning, so I picked the right time to go. There was one person ahead of me when I went to pay for my stuff.

I am ecstatically happy with the items in question. I'm calling this vibe "70s Nouveau".

I got that fantastic duvet cover with the red and black and squigly patterns and cats and red hearts/fruits/whatever (so 70s), and red sheets, and pillows with fuzzy, furry white covers (because 70s), and it's so damn awesome I can't tell you.

And the shag carpets ARE LOVE.

At first, I put the stuffed friends I had on my old pillows on the new pillows, but they all kept falling off during the night, because the new pillows are thinner and taller, so I reorganized said stuffed friends.

I love those pillows. They're so cool and soft and fuzzy.

Potion fell in love with the new bedspread instantly.

This is where he is right now:

So, pictures.

Potion, Saturday night. This was before I started moving my stuffed friends around a bit.

SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG carpets. The white one next to the bed was ten bucks, the thick grey pile beneath my beloved comfy chair and footstool was thirty (both were on special).

Potion also adored the carpets.

Potion enjoying the bedspread, yesterday I think.

Where I put my Care Bears:

Yesterday, I put up my new curtains and I love them. Note that they match the pillow on my chair.

Yesterday, Potion was chilling on my work chair, one of his favorite spots. This is where I write my very serious books.

Yesterday evening, I kept thinking about this picture that hung above my bed when I was a kid. I adored that picture; it just did something to me.

Lo and behold, I do have a picture of this. Never mind the pink nightgown and so on. I still often do that move when I laugh, by the way.

Here I am doing this a few years ago. I was dressed as Professor Snape (this was back when I still had his shag cut, before I chopped my hair off), with a friend; we were seeing one of the Potter films, I forget which one.

It actually didn't even occur to me to look at old photos before I embarked upon my internet search last night! But anywho. I remembered a picture of a girl on a beach, with immense eyes. That was all I had to go on, and I thought, I'll never find it. I figured it was like looking for a needle in a wheat field.

Soon enough, however, I zeroed in on the artist who'd probably done the picture, and them BAM! I gasped; there it was. It was done by Michel Thomas, a French artist, in the 70s (obviously). The picture is called Protection de la Nature.

These used to be on postcards, I found out, and I managed to snag one of them on eBay (France). I plan to scan it and print up an 8X10 image of it, which I'll then put in a frame.

So anyway, I'm finding that the 70s are a very happy place for me these days. I'm ignoring the outside world as much as possible, and if anybody pesters me about the current state of affairs, I reply, "I'm sorry, I'm in 1976 right now."

In fact, I just bought a macramé book, ahahahahaha. There's going to be a macramé owl somewhere in here soon.

Next up: looking for vintage mugs at places like Value Village. I got my heart set on dishware involving mushrooms or psychedelic flower patterns.

With all this, I'm a bit behind on Secular Holiday, but I'll catch up next week.
