40 degrees fahrenheit and rainy here
which means i'm hitting the months where i eat a lot of homemade egg drop soup. it's quick and easy once you have the knack.
i'll share my recipe with potential tweaks to taste later, but for now i thought i'd try to kick up some conversations. what's your go-to cold weather food?

Ooh, that sounds delicious! I have an awesome curried beef-stuffed acorn squash recipe that I always crave in the fall when the weather starts turning cold. Ground beef, rice, and kale, seasoned with curry, ginger, orange juice, onion, garlic, and beef bouillon, and served with acorn squash. Everything about it is just so warm and comfortable and everything umami.
I don't know if I have an official winter food though. Anything that uses the oven is always good!
Chili and cornbread :) And soups soups and more soups--i'll just put something together with whatever meat & vegetables are on hand. with a grilled cheese sandwich if it matches.
Grilled cheese sandwiches always match with soup!
Chili and cornbread is a great one. I love making a big batch and then freezing it in single-dinner portions. I'll also mix up a few small batches of cornbread with just the dry ingredients in ziplock bags. Come home from work, mix up the cornbread and stick it in the oven, start the chili heating on the stove, and you have such a hearty meal just 20 minutes later!
Soup, but I tend to go Mexican with the flavors. Caldo de Res and Caldo de Pollo (beef and chicken respectively) are my go to, but there's a tortilla soup my husband does that is amazing. If we're not feeling soup, I love mushroom risotto.
Mmmm I did a study abroad in Mexico while I was in college and my host mom's caldo was awesome. And the pozole. Mmmmm. I've never been able to find or make it quite as good as she did.
I woke up this evening (working nights again) to my partner making a Vat, yes a Vat of Chili! We will be eating chili for the next week lol!. Love it!
