Cool! I really like Jemisin's work, don't think I've read Alexander or Hough, and like Valente's premises but don't do well with her prose. These look great, and I'll definitely check them out.
Wait wait wait... Does this mean you've seen the Mass Effect: Andromeda bible? YOU KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING? I'm coming over.
MAYBE. 😁
WAT gets keys I'm comin' over. I dunno where you live but I'll drive around until I find you.
SO THIS IS WHAT YOU WERE BEING SO COY ABOUT
HOLY CRAP?!?!?!?!?!
PRETTY MUCH YEAH. :D
NDAs, man. Like, the worst.
I feel you.
Man, this is super cool. I have a million questions which I won't even bother asking—but suffice to say that I think this author lineup is awfully interesting.
It doesn't seem like a group of people terribly interested in writing books about oversimplified heroic colonialism and the inherent specialness of humans, is I guess what I'm saying.
You may be right! Then again... perhaps what we're looking at is something just a bit sideways in that regard. Are we offering something new? A different take? Or exactly what you'd expect from ME?
And in that vein, perhaps ME has evolved from its earlier roots?
Only readers will be able to decide that. For my part? I just hope they enjoy it~
Oh, of course! I'm sorry, I don't mean to be coy.
I have a lot of Capital-C Concerns about how the fundamental goal of Finding A New Home is going to be treated in the game. It's a fascinating idea, but also one rich with opportunities for missteps. The idea of "what I expect" from Mass Effect is a complicated one—in truth, when it comes to the game proper, I expect some stuff I absolutely LOVE, and some other stuff I kind of roll my eyes at, but overall a memorable and affecting experience.
Anyway, though, regarding the lineup of authors here—you all seem like people more likely to explore the complicated, interesting aspects of the Space Emigration experience, rather than settling for simple ends-justify-the-means handwaving of how an enterprise like this would go down. I find it very heartening, and will absolutely buy the shit out of these books.
Also, hello, I'm Paul, it's nice to meet you. <3
No worries, I didn't think you were being coy. It's okay to have Concerns. I did and do, too! But I can say that this particular group of authors, especially N. K. Jemisin!, is probably more likely to handle aspects of this with more care than many might.
For my part, while I HAVE to be coy about details (out of respect for the devs, who are still working on the project), I can say that what we fold in our particular book, NEXUS UPRISING, is full of all kinds things. Some that will make you laugh, and some that will make you roll your eyes. ;) And much, I hope, that will make you understand just what launched the 'verse you get to explore.
I'm Kace! Or K. C., as you like. Nice to meet you! And like you, I totes look forward to exploring that 'verse (we haven't gotten to, either, yet!) and seeing all those laughing and eye-rolling and (if the prior games were any indication) screaming and crying and swearing moments. <3
