Anything to do with mental illnesses/disorders
Meds: Prazosin?
Howdy all. I just got back from a visit with my new shrink, who I think I am really going to like. Even though he's "making" me go back into therapy. But that's a whole other post...
I have a fairly severe anxiety disorder and have been taking trazodone for years at night as a sleep aid (amongst other things), but my last shrink (an icky one to whom I will never return) tinkered with my meds list and suddenly I started having really vivid dreams and horrible nightmares. After fruitless attempts to get in touch with Icky Shrink, I stopped taking the trazodone as vivid dreams are one of the potential side effects. The nightmares have lingered, however, and the new shrink has suggested a different approach -- prazosin. Before I dive in, I wondered if anybody here has had experience with it, good or bad?
I realize that anecdotes are no substitute for an evaluation from a psychiatrist. I'm just hoping that someone will have a good story that will help relieve some of my anxiety.

Congrats on finding a doctor, that is one of the hardest thing to do! I also have a severe anxiety disorder and sleep is one of my big triggers/problems.
I have not tried prazosin, I use lorazepam for sleep when I need it. I've also recently been put on abilify and am trying to adjust to that.
Good luck!
Ah, my old pal abilify. I was on that for years. Unfortunately, it gave me hand tremors, for which the doctor gave me cogentin. I am off both of them now for the time being. Good luck with it, and thanks!
So far, much evidence from clinical trials actually point to two cognitive techniques as being most effective for insomnia and have been shown to have effects lasting from 12 to 24 months.
You can try talking to your doctor about teaching you sleep restriction, stimulus control, and sleep hygiene Medications are not really recommended as long term management due to their side effects, so hopefully you can somehow find use in these techniques :)
I read this and it was pretty good! But I still struggle.
How have you been doing with your anxiety? (will reply in 7 hours. Have internship in the morning)
