If you haven't read spoon theory it was originally written by someone with Lupus disease however it also applies really well to people with mental illnesses, especially those with depression or anxiety to describe how one has to handle energy and motivation and the like.

YES. So much yes. I've experienced this a lot at various points in my life with mental and physical illnesses, and it really is so great to be able to use this analogy. One thing that's hard for me is that I've learned that the line between having one spoon left and zero is pretty thin, and yet the different sides of that are SO drastically different. Even if I only have one spoon left, I can still stay pretty functional and keep it so that a lot of little don't even realize I'm running so low. I can cope really well on very little. The bad thing about that is that because of that, it's really easy for me to keep pushing when I'm low and keep doing stuff and think I can handle it, but then all of a sudden I hit zero and I just completely crash. And to an onlooker, it will look like I went from a super high functioning individual to a semi comatose person really quickly. And unfortunately, when I hit zero, it usually takes way, way, way longer to rebound back from zero to one than it does to go from one to two, or two to three, or whatever. I'm trying to learn to moderate myself better, but it's hard. :(
Well I hope that you can find some way to moderate it better in the future, and or be able to find ways to get them back faster as well, especially coming off of zero as well.
Thanks. :) I'm trying to do better!
Yes! I have a handful of chronic illnesses and I run out of spoons quickly every day. By the time I get home from work, it's all I can do to make it into my pjs.
