Maybe living without magic would’ve been easier, Terra thought, if she’d actually felt like anything was missing. But she’d found after escaping the Tower that she felt much the same as she ever had. The world was a bit quieter, perhaps, and the colors had dulled somewhat, but she still felt as healthy as ever.
The old habits were harder to break, of course. Months after they’d destroyed magic, and she still found herself focusing intently on every wound she got - scratches when one of the guard dogs got too excited, or bruises from falling in the garden. She’d stare at it, wondering what was wrong, why the pain wasn’t fading away.
Celes had taught her how to dress wounds the old-fashioned way; the Empire had drilled the knowledge into her head, despite giving her magic as well. She was more fortunate; she struggled less to live without the magic. Terra wasn’t surprised, of course; magic had been a part of her from her very conception, while Celes had been infused shortly after her birth. But she still envied her at times, wished she could stop expecting a bleeding wound to staunch itself with a wave of her hand.
