MISfortunes
NHL's First Season Begins (19 December 1917)
The National Hockey League, which was formed on 26 November 1917 after disputes within the National Hockey Association, opened its first season on this date in 1917. The Montreal Canadiens beat the Ottawa Senators and the Montreal Wanderers defeated the Toronto Arenas. The initial league consisted of four franchises (the two Montreal teams, Ottawa, Toronto) or five (the Quebec Bulldogs, who were unable to play in the inaugural year so the Toronto team was created); today it has 30 clubs.

I read a book about this last year. There was so much unnecessary drama and adult men acting like children and calling each other names. (Has that really changed within the NHL though?)
Ha. "Disputes within the NHA" was a polite way of putting it, wasn't it?
What book?
Yeah, the disputes the NHA was a very polite way to put it. The book was The NHL: A Century of Trials and Triumphs I don't think I finished it, though, because I had it checked out for like 6 weeks. Some parts were super dry, but the disputes bits were funny.
I just checked my reading tag on tumblr and found this excerpt that killed me.
LOL! I'll have to look for that book.
