Tonight's track is "Casaba" from the album "Vince Guaraldi, Bola Sete, and Friends", a collaboration between the American pianist and Brazilian guitarist.
You might know Vince Guaraldi better as the composer of the theme music for the "Peanuts" animated series.
Bola Sete's real name was Djalma de Andrade. His nickname means "Seven Ball" and he got it from being the only Black musician in a small jazz band back in Rio de Janeiro (the 7 ball is the black one in Brazilian billiards).
Personnel:
- Vince Guaraldi - piano
- Bola Sete - guitar
- Fred Marshall - bass
- Jerry Granelli - drums

I looooove Vince Guaraldi. The Peanuts music is great (Linus and Lucy is still one of my favorite songs to play on the piano), but I was always a huge fan of his Brazilian/Latin tunes like Samba de Orpheus and Manha de Carnaval too. I hadn't heard this one before--thanks for sharing it!
Samba de Orfeu and Manha de Carnaval are by Luis Bonfa. They were written for the Brazilian film "Black Orpheus".
But Vince does have great interpretations of them. You should listen to Paul Desmond's versions of the two on the album "Take Ten".
Right, yeah, Vince had that whole album called Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus, I remember now. I'll definitely listen to Paul Desmond's versions too!
I think there's also a medley of the two on another Vince-Bola collaboration album, "Live at El Matador".
