Moonbeam Cafe: for the night owls. We are not afraid of the dark. Pour a drink and stay a while.
The Witch revisited

Now we can finally talk about the Witch in all its creepy, sensual depth!
I love, love, love the last scene in this movie.
Spoiler alerts!
What did you all think of it? What was this movie trying to say?

OooooOOOooo! Spooky times!!!
Were you shocked? Were you surprised by the turn of events...?
Oy then! You were already here!
Actually, I was pleasantly surprised. I love it when writers take things to the max (as you know). But I thought they'd shy away from such an ending because 'oh it might be too silly' 'wouldn't want to admit the devil was real' 'she wouldn't sign the covenant' blah blah blah.
But NO! They took it there! And they didn't imply it-- they showed it in its gruesome, raw glory!
It was AWESOME. And black philip as the devil was BRILLIANT.
The scene was so taut with tension and so sensual/awakening, it made perfect sense in terms of a coming of age moment.
Basically, they didn't shy - I admire them so much for that!
It's funny because we're watching it in a modern context and it's natural to think, "Well, this is just religious fervor..." The term "witch-hunt" generally indicates a search for some nebulous bad thing that doesn't really exist, where innocent people are persecuted.
But the opening of the film suggests that this story has been assembled from folktales of the time. Sooo... this world believes in dark magic.
Even so, it's still surprising when they totally go for it in the end...!
The film has a creeping quality to it.
And then, yes, there is a curious sort of... sense of liberation at the end...
Power that's been suppressed... oppressed... finally allowed to blossom... with fiery urgency...
Yes! I don't wish to squeeze the richly textured movie down into metaphors but the end does feel free. I know hideous things happened to Thomasin, but she is so powerful at end. I loved this. Nothing will ever hurt her again.
Now I think on it, this movie has influenced my story too!
squeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
it is adorable!
@Zork I need to post a few more things on here before we advertise it.... but I am unsure of what to post! Any ideas?
Let's think about this because we don't want to dilute "the brand" by just making this "LGC 2".
LGC, as much as it's grown, is still evolving.
How do you want your Moonbeam Cafe to be its own entity? What do you want to do in Moonbeam Cafe that we can't or shouldn't do in LGC...?
Yes!
I have posted a few more things over there.
I want it to be its own entity. I want it to have a darker flavor. It shouldn't be a place for 'how are you today?' Because that's already got a place.
I was telling TLQ...
LGC if the cafe where you catch up with your friends.
At MB, you've already caught up. No need to catch up. You just want to relax and have a good time.
At LGC, we can't really cover interesting non PG stuff in too much depth. Jokes can't be taken too far. But also, there's a lot of stuff I just feel like the community isn't up to discuss.
For instance, I love /healthysexuality on here. We could discuss things on MB similarly, but I wouldn't see being able to do that on LGC
Rather like LGC, I imagine things here can be brief or long, shallow or deep. But it should have its own, rich flavor.
And thaaaat sounded..... wrong.
lmho -- no, that sounds PERFECT :-)
I don't want to say this in a weird way but, like, I really love exploring the more complicated things in life that aren't always family-friendly. In creative ways. I'm sure other people do too! Talking about what they mean-- like we just did on here, with poetry, a movie, or just what's happening in your life.
Kind of like, you know how you meet up with friends and have 2 drinks and suddenly you're talking about-- stuff you didn't know you could feel free to talk about-- and you love it!
I want this to be a freeing space. A space where you aren't afraid to talk about things.
At the same time... I want it to be a classy place. Because I'm a classy girl, dammit.
You're the classiest dame I've never met, that's for damn sure.
Here's a heavier question...
Should... this... cafe... be... private?
Now, that's loaded because -- much like becoming a vampire -- you can't really go back after you've made an imzy community private.
But it's small enough that it could be DEVELOPED as a private community.
We invite people in more carefully.
Maybe we try to populate the cafe with people who are good at these deeper conversations. We could recruit people from LGC.
I'm just placing this on the table. In some ways, it would make it a "safer" place to go a little further.
Hmmm.... I don't want it to seem like some exclusive club. But at the same time, there is no limit on people we could invite.
People can't see it and request to join, though-- they have to receive an invite from us?
Could we, if private, put a post on LGC asking for interested parties to send invites to?
TLQ points out. We can always ban people - if they turn the community into waters we aren't comfortable with.
We could definitely make a public post about it. I'm not sure how it would be "seen" independent of speaking of it in public spaces.
Okay now, here's some cons of a private space...
We could make a call for any interested parties -- but then everyone can raise their hands, just to have access, even though they may not participate. Which seems to defeat the purpose.
We'd be dealing more with actively curating/inviting members. Which could get cumbersome...
The trade-off, though, is another level of freedom. Yes, it becomes a bit of an "exclusive club" -- but we'd be inviting peeps who are interested in joining, so it's not like people are really jumping through hoops to get in. It's more like... a little curtain to conceal the passageway to the "adult section"...
It would definitely help separate this from LGC. And make sure the subs aren't really "competing", because they're just built completely differently.
What do you think about... seeing how it develops before making this decision?
What do you think about doing a single advertisement on LGC, and watching what happens as the first small batch of people join, before bringing down the private curtain? If it is needed
I fear if we make it private right away, it could snuff it out. Like a candle with a snuffer.
Yeah, I don't wanna snuffer no candles, Mr. Frodo!
Let's definitely explore before committing. No deadlines, we've got all the time in the world.
renames this thread to moonbeam planning haha
I think - as I think over it and play Chopin for reals lol - I think if I want to capture ONE THING with this space - here it is - it is eros.
very true! see comment up a few too friend!
like a place where people can explore that in safety. not in a weird way. just in a creative and relaxed way.
and sometimes in a silly way.
and most certainly not in a rest of the internet way. because this is imzy. and imzy is fun and classy.
And the design and nature of imzy may just naturally allow us to carry this out without making it private.
But we definitely need to educate folks on what this place is about. LGC is a little more self-explaining.
Moonbeam Cafe... is a little more mysterious...
ah yes....
as it should be
i love it.
and i love the design by tlq.
tlq mad a really nice welcome post but i think you might want to think about posting your own welcome, too.
what moonbeam cafe means to you.
what you'd like moonbeam cafe to become.
yes. yes, i think you're right.
the problem is i'm a little... on the fence about what to say.
but i will try. i'm going to come back after a short break and try.
You've already said a lot of good things that help define the Moonbeam Cafe. And as with any community, it will find its own unique voice. I don't think you predicted what LGC would become when you started it.
But you can have hopes and dreams for this.
And you're already setting the tone with what you've posted so far.
I think it'll be helpful for peeps to see... your initial take on this space. It doesn't have to be like a constitution. Just... similar to what tlq posted... some words to set the tone...
Yes! I think I'll do that now :) I've thought
