I just watched Arrival (2016). Its all about communicating with a completely alien intelligence. I never knew coffee cup stains could convey so much information.

I really loved the movie because it did what sci-fi does best: taking a premise that wouldn't normally happen in real life and using it to really understand humanity and explore complex moral and ethical dilemmas. Too many sci-fi movies these days are just an excuse for an action movie with bigger explosions and scarier bad guys.
Ha! I really liked that movie. Got the book with the short story it was based on - looking forward to starting that soon
I thought it was a brilliantly original story
The ending was great
Abbott is death process
SPOILER WARNING
This was a huge point for me. Even when humanity was "stupid ape" and did what they did, where they did. And the result was unexpected. That's what I like about Sci-Fi. When they wander off the trope list and explore new stories.
Sorry for the vagueness, I hate spoilers but I wanted to also comment.
Time Movie ! Scifi Great
I accidentally saw this at the cinema when the guy gave us tickets to this instead of the film we asked to see (think it was dr strange) so I just looked what screen we were in and sat down then the title screen came on and we were a bit confused but decided we may as well stay and although I've still not seen dr strange I suspect I would prefer this any way. Very good film. Made me feel clever going to see a film about communication instead of a general action one.
