Karen Gillan's Controversial 'Jumanji' Costume Explained, But Does the Reason Make It Okay?
When Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle released a first look photo of the characters in the film there was public outcry over Karen Gillan's nonsensical jungle attire. Star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson promised that her wardrobe would "make sense once you know the plot" and Gillan herself assured fans there was a valid reason for why she was dressed in a crop top and leather vest-turned-bustier.

Is it because she breathes through her skin?
They could do it well or they could do it badly. If they just accept the fact that she's in a skimpy costume without question in the name of "accuracy", that's kind of lame. But if they deconstruct it and play it for laughs, it could be quite good.
The manufactured controversy reminds me of when I Dream Of Jeannie committed the unforgivable sin of showing a woman's belly button.
I think there's a difference between "Women's bodies should be hidden, as they are sexual by nature" and "Fictional women shouldn't be made to traipse through the jungle in their underwear while their male counterparts are covered in appropriate costume".
