Halloween Traditions In A Lunarpunk Society
Keeping in mind, of course, that various communities would have their own holidays and such - along with the fact that differing climates would also make uniformity of holiday traditions/rituals impractical, to say the least.
In this setting, though, Jimmy Reed and the members of Avenged Sevenfold would reside in what we know of as southern California. I’m not sure if they would quite live in the same community, or if they would live roughly a half-hour apart. Jimmy Reed and his family would have moved to what was a Halloweentown by the mid-1960s, in which about roughly 50% of the population would be composed of people who are not mundane mortals - and those who are mundane mortal are aware of and accepting of vampires and such. Not much would change in the town/community, aside from the eventual decentralization of it. With the general public becoming aware of the existence of vampires and such, more Halloween-devoted communities might spring up.
Most of the Avenged Sevenfold members would still grow up in what we know of as Huntington Beach, and Zacky’s family would move there during his teen years. In this setting, quite naturally, what we know of as Huntington Beach would be far less conservative - and the relatively large city would likely dissolve into several smaller communities. At some point, Brian Haner Jr’s relationship with his father becomes strained. I’m thinking that the families of Zacky Vengeance and Johnny Christ would reside in a dwelling together - and, at some point, the other members of the band move in with them.
Because the youth actually have rights in this setting. Most children who are raised in a family or family-like structure are happy with their family - but those who are unhappy, for some reason or another, have the option to move elsewhere. In most cases, it’s not because the parents don’t love them - but because the children have interests that conflict with that of the rest of the family. In those cases, the parents are typically understanding and supportive - and work with their children to find a living arrangement that’s more accommodating of their interests. These parents typically genuinely love their children, and want them to be happy - even if it means being happy elsewhere. As such, many people are a little surprised to find out that Brian Haner Jr has a strained relationship with his father - but, nonetheless, people are supportive of him. M Shadows and The Rev would probably have been raised in a non-family structure, but come to desire the concept of family living - so they move in with the Bakers and the Sewards, who welcome them with open arms.
Jimmy Reed, with him and his wife being vampires, have an unconventional family arrangement to begin with. They’ve gone on to turn several children into vampires, and subsequently adopt them. Then there’s also the case of Abby, who was Jimmy’s daughter from his immediately prior life as Cecilia Moore Hopkins. Abby was a ghost, when Jimmy first found her - and Abby remained a ghost for the following sixteen years after she moved in with the Reeds. Finally, she gets a corporeal body - and the body remains stuck at five years old, the age she was when she died.
In this universe, Jimmy Reed would likely resume his career as a blues artist as the general public becomes aware of the existence of vampires - but, due to artistic freedom, Jimmy has the ability to tour at will… which means he never has to be separated from his family for a lengthy period of time.
October 31st would remain being an important day in the communities where Jimmy Reed and the Avenged Sevenfold members reside - and, in fact, the entire month of October would be devoted to Halloween. Jack-o-lanterns would be everywhere, likely powered by solar lights rather than candles - and orange lights and purple lights would be dominant, with some pink lights scattered within. The Halloween community would be relatively dark year round, as it’s populated by large trees to accommodate the vampire population (and mortals that don’t like the sun).
Each full moon would be a holiday, as well - and, on that night, various buildings would light up with lunar-related decorations - and there would be certain business who open only on nights of the full moon, as well as possibly the entire month of October. There is no business competition in this setting, so they work together to ensure the happiness of their consumers. The interior of each business building would be pleasing to the eyes, as it would be dimly lit in according with the lunar theme - and various glowing stickers would adorn the walls.
