Candy Land: Comparisons With The Game
Three monster type beings appear to be common with most versions of the game: gloppys, plumpys, and jollies. After some deliberation, I decided that each should be an entire species in certain Candy Land communities.
Gloppys are chocolate monsters - and I haven’t changed too much there, other than that there is more than one. There is also no the chocolate lake in Chocolate Valley - but, rather, several lakes made of chocolate. Gloppys have the ability to teleport themselves between the chocolate lakes, and they reproduce by laying eggs - like most marine creatures do.
Jollys are gumdrop-gnomes which come in eight different colours/flavours: red/strawberry, orange/orange, yellow/lemon, green/lime, blue/blueberry, indigo/blackberry, violet/grape, pink/raspberry. They definitely should be plentiful. They are native to Rainbow Valley - and, even though Rainbow Valley is pretty much immigrant central, more than a few have immigrated to the neighbouring Gingerbread Kingdom.
Plumpys have been changed the most. They resemble fuzzballs with arms and legs - and are coloured red, green, and blue. They are native to Gingerbread Kingdom, and are most populous around plum trees.
Licorice spiders have not existed prior the arrival of the Warriors Against Haner crew in Licorice Land. Just as the Lime Witch suggested that Deathbat Country could really use some green creatures, the Licorice Wizard suggests that Deathbat Country could really use some red spiders. Matt (the) Baker agrees that a bit more variation in spiders isn’t such a bad idea. Together, they end up creating a thousand red spiders with black stripes and yellow eyes. Then together, the two of them admire how Deathbat Country is growing - and how the somewhat older residents are quick to give the newest residents a warm welcome.
As for the locations, I probably won’t be using all of them - but here are some of the ones I like most:
Peppermint Forest: Renamed Candy Cane Forest, actually - and the occupy the border of Mint Municipal and Gingerbread Kingdom. It’s quite fitting, since Gingerbread Kingdom is a Christmas-themed community - and what can be more Christmasy than candy canes, right? That is actually something I had considered when designing the map.
Licorice Lagoon/Licorice Lake: There are several of them, actually, in Licorice Land. They are coloured red, rather than black. The licorice liquid actually tastes quite good when heated, and is said be good for soothing sore throats.
Ice Cream Sea: Ice Cream Lake, actually - and is one of the various candy-themed lakes to exist in Rainbow Valley. It is akin to a root bear float, except the bubble liquid contains a variety of flavours. It’s been established in extended Rainbow Valley, which is to the northeast of mainland Rainbow Valley - and borders Bubblegum Village and Cotton Candy Commune.
Likewise, with the characters, I probably won’t be using all of them (and certainly not Lord Licorice as a villain!) - but here are some of the ones I like most. Monsters have been already covered above.
Mr. Mint: He was born and grew up in Mint Municipal, but currently resides on the Gingerbread Kingdom side of Candy Cane Forest. Whilst dinner mints and mint bars are the major focus in Mint Municipal proper, Mr. Mint focuses more on creating mint hard candy - which, for some reason, are quite popular in Gingerbread Kingdom.
Gramma Gooey and Gramma Nutt: Neither are famous, really. They are not related, and they do not even know each other. The Warriors Against Haner crew stay with Gramma Gooey in Chocolate Valley and Gramma Nutt in Peanutopolis. Both are quite adept with creating chocolate treats and peanut treats, respectively - which are very well-liked by the neighbourhood kids and the visiting kids.
Mamma Gingersnap: She isn’t famous, either. The Warriors Against Haner crew stay with her when in Gingerbread Kingdom. She is quite adept at baking gingersnaps, which are very well-liked by the neighbourhood kids and the visiting kids. Three plumpys (red, green, and blue) live with her.
Princess Lolly: She isn’t actually a princess, but “President Lolly” or “Prime Minister Lolly” doesn’t have the same ring to it. She’s been the democratically-elected co-leader of Rainbow Valley for over twenty years, now - and she largely governs mainland Rainbow Valley.
Princess Frostine: Also not actually a princess, she’s been the democratically-elected co-leader of Rainbow Valley for almost ten years, now - and she largely governs extended Rainbow Valley.
Princess Bubblegum: Not actually a “princess”, but “President Bubblegum” or “Prime Minister Bubblegum” doesn’t have the same ring to it. She’s been the democratically-elected leader of Bubblegum Village for over fifty years, now.
King Kandy: He is the reincarnation of Willy Wonka, and he lives in Candy Castle - which is located in mainland Rainbow Valley. He is the leader of the Sweet Liberty Union - an international organization which oversees the entire region (including some that are not officially part of Candy Land, such as Mushroom Kingdom and Peanutopolis) to ensure that all residents are being treated fairly and have ample freedom.
- Princess Bubblegum is actually from Adventure Time, but I thought I should include her here.
