Dungeon Fantasy: Mushroom Kingdom and Subcon

About 40% of the sapient Mushroom Kingdom residents (vegetable people, toads [mushroom-gnomes], frogs [actual amphibians], bluebirds, and pink birdoes) regularly go over to Subcon when they fall asleep. About 40% of the remaining are occasional visitors to Subcon. The distinction is made in that the former have entire identities there, whereas the latter mist in and out of Subcon. It is relatively rare to encounter people they know in real life in Subcon, although people have occasionally later met people in real life that they first met in Subcon.

There are also members of these species who exist only in Subcon. Most vegetable people (even if they weren’t Subcon dreamers) reside in Subcon after their death in the real world, and they stop aging. Toads typically become boos after death, but boos have the ability to transport themselves between Mushroom Kingdom and Subcon at will.

Subcon fairies are indigenous to Subcon. They have the resemblance of small cherubim wearing fuzzy footed pajamas. They have to ability to enter other dream lands, but lack the ability to enter the real world.

As Zacky Vengeance has dream-walking abilities, he is able to enter Subcon. On the occasion that he does, and brings Jimmy (of) Reed with him, they are stunned to find themselves actually being put to work in a dream. They are tasked with uncovering certain artifacts, in order to prevent Subcon from being taken over by one of Haner’s henchmen.

As with their tour throughout Candy Land, Jimmy and Zacky are tasked with watching over the children. However, after the children go to bed, Jimmy and Zacky then set off for their mission in Subcon - via one of the native Subcon dreaming children that they are watching. Even when it seems like they were in Subcon for a few hours, it turns out that only about a half hour or so has passed in the real world. As such, Jimmy and Zacky are still able to get ample sleep at night. As they aren’t native to Mushroom Kingdom, they aren’t Subcon dreamers themselves.
