The first three times are in album order. First play though is ALWAYS with speakers, just sitting or laying around soaking it in. I'll write a journal entry or blog post just spilling my initial feelings. I've done it for years. Second, is with speakers and the lyrics book, or online lyrics. The third time is with headphones. Then I'll listen to my favourite song on the album about a dozen times. Then I'll listen to the track I least connected with a few times trying to figure it out. Finally I put the album on shuffle and listen to how it sounds pulled out of album order.
If I end up loving the album it usually becomes the ONLY thing I listen to for about 6 weeks on repeat and buy it on CD. Otherwise, I may just save the singles or my favourite tracks and otherwise let the album sit there unlistened to, or thrown into my general music shuffle.
If I traveled more I'd listen to full albums in the car, but I'm 20 minutes away from everywhere I go so it's kind of useless. I do sometimes listen to EPs though.
Yeah its only something I've done since moving to the area I live now. Since there are lots of low cost trendy cities that arr an hour or two away, I can get my music on during some short road trips
Usually I buy the record and listen to it with a beer or two and lie down and listen. Sometimes, albums aren't released on vinyl prompty so then it's usually in headphones at my desk at work.

I usual travel to different cities on weekends so nothing like listening to a new album on my car speakers.
