Current and ongoing news across the world
It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black.
This Object Has Been Sprayed With the World's Blackest Material, and It's Freaking Us Out
Well, we've finally cracked it. Scientists have finally figured out how to paint a portal to another dimension, as prophesied by Loony Tunes' the Roadrunner . Who wants to try driving a (very small) truck right through that gaping void circle?

I love this.
Since it's not easily available, an artist named Stuart Semple made a slightly less amazing yet readily available version.
Well, available to all except Anish Kapoor, who has exclusive rights to use Vantablack in art.
The Semple/Kapoor feud is my favorite art world drama ever.
My favorite is when Semple made "The Pinkest Pink" and sold it to everyone except Kapoor. Then Kapoor managed to get his hands on it through a secret buyer and posted this on Instagram.
Aaahahaha. Goodness. So petty lol.
And then the letter Semple sent to the Lisson Gallery, which gave Kapoor the PINK.

Hahaha. That's amazing. I totally missed this part : )
I remember there was earlier, less formal email he sent to them along the lines of "You've been extremely naughty. You gave him my PINK!" Sadly I can't find it on the internet anymore.

It's a licensing deal. Both parties sign a legal agreement. If they try to sell the paint to some other artist, Kapoor can sue them for violating the agreement.
And it's only an exclusive license to use it in artwork. Vantablack is primarily meant as an engineering material. They're marketing it for scientific and military applications. It's actually rather impractical to use in artwork because you need a special application process (and there are a lot of safety concerns).
