'Plan A Protest, Lose Your House' Bill, SB 1142, Killed by Arizona House
Some good news from the Arizona Legislature: S.B. 1142, the bill that would have allowed protest organizers to be prosecuted for racketeering if a demonstration turned violent, is effectively dead. The Arizona Republic reports that House Speaker J.D. Mesnard does not plan to consider the bill, which means that it won't move forward in the legislature.

Let's hope the other state legislatures that have introduced similar bills follow suit.

Good. Ridiculous that any state would consider making protesting illegal.
Scary that far right ideas like this would get this far in a state's legislature.
Thank goodness.
My understanding is that the bill did not attempt to stop all protest, just violent protest. I have never understood "protesters" who set fires and loot in their own communities.
So I already discussed the bill at length over the past few days and don't really want to repeat myself, but here's a link back to that discussion where I outlined why I think the bill would have been bad news for protests in general: https://www.imzy.com/news/post/arizona_senate_votes_to_seize_assets_of_those_who_
Your thoughts in that thread did not go unchallenged. Did you expect that they should be here?
Not really? What I'm saying is, I don't have the energy for a debate right now, but here are my thoughts if you're interested.
Ah, fair enough. Then I thank you for the link.
