According to the article and its sources, it's the best launch of any Nintendo Console in North America, with Zelda: Breath of the Wild having the best stand-alone launch in Nintendo's history, and with its near perfect review scores, and my own deep abiding awe at the game, it's no wonder.
It's surpassed the Wii U Launch in the UK at ~80,000 units (roughly double the Wii U's launch), which is undeniably good, though it still lags behind the ~112,000 units of the /3DS launch in 2012.
Japan's Switch numbers also exceeded the Wii U, at ~330,000 units vs the Wii U's ~308,000 units.
All in all, they're good numbers across the board, especially for an off-season March launch. With a number of high-profile first-party titles coming out over the year (I still think Nintendo is making the right move in that), and what looks to be a fairly robust third-party catalogue to back it up before the holidays, the Switch should be in great shape by year's end.
