Forza Motorsport 6: Apex Open Beta for Windows 10 drops on May 5th
Forza Motorsport 6: Apex Open Beta on Windows 10 Arrives May 5
A new era for the Forza Motorsport series begins on May 5 with the release of the open beta for Forza Motorsport 6: Apex. Crafted specifically for Windows 10, Apex represents the critical first step in the future of the Forza franchise as it expands onto Windows 10 PCs.
I am a HUGE fan of racing games. While I play the majority of games on the PC, I ifnd it difficult to play racing titles. On the PC there are really only two types of racing games, which are either full racing simulation games (iRacing, Raceroom, etc.) or they were arcade (NFS, dirt, crew, GTA, etc.). Very few of them fall into the "SimCade" category that Forza and GranTurismo (GT) fit in. Project Cars tried and failed, and Assetto Corsa is there, but it's more simulator than it is arcade. Beam.NG is fun, but has several shortcomings. Beam.NG has no multiplayer (yet) and is more a physics simulator (less racing game).
The Forza series (both Motorsport and Horizon) is why I own an Xbox One, but also other games like DiRT Rally, Ride, and other racing titles (I know DiRT Rally is on PC too, but my group of racing friends are all on XB1). Racing on the console is just more accessible than on the PC, and I LOVE the Forza Franchise (for all you GranTurismo fans out there, I played 1-4 before shifting to Forza with FM4). I have longed for a game like Forza Motorsport (FM) to come to the PC. One where it's not just about getting into a car and racing. It's about buying, building, painting, tuning, sharing AND racing said cars. In most racing titles, there is some form of customization, but none to the degree Forza has. Cars in my garage are mine. I paint them. I tune them. I drive them.
Forza Motorsport 6: Apex (FM6:A) is just a taste of what is coming. The first full Forza title release on Windows 10 will be Forza Horizon 3 (FH3) later this year. Forza Horizon is an open world racing game in the spirit of Need for Speed, but MUCH better physics, upgrades and customization. While I'm more partial to Forza Motorsport (FM7 will not drop until late 2017 on XB1 and W10), FH is a great "gap" game to keep the whistle wet. Even though FM6:A will be a cut down version of the XB1 FM6, it will showcase the game and all of it's features.
Hopefully FM3 and FM7 will feature cross platform Racing and Marketplaces, as well as continued cross platform party support. All I know is I am excited to finally play Forza on PC.
