Favourite Character?

Who's your favourite artificially-created or influenced character? They don't have to be from Star Trek, though obviously it's cool if they are.

Personally, I love Julian Bashir from DS9 - I feel like I can relate to him in some ways, probably at least partially because I headcanon him as being autistic and have no issues with judiciously ignoring parts of canon I don't like.

I also love JARVIS from Marvel, and the Android from Dark Matter, and the EMH from Voyager and Vic Fontaine from DS9 and Data from TNG and Jack & Co. and just. All the characters.

I love JARVIS too! I was heartbroken at his demise; I definitely don't think he got the sendoff he deserved. Is Dark Matter a good show? I've been meaning to check it out for awhile now.

I was so sad at what happened to JARVIS! I do like the Vision, but I wish he hadn't come into existence in the way he did.

Dark Matter is pretty good! It's got an interesting premise, and a pretty diverse cast as far as race and gender goes. The Android is a great character, and most of the characters have something about them to make them interesting from a backstory or personality perspective.

Yeah, I like Vision, but I just wish JARVIS had been allowed to continue on in some form. We do have FRIDAY at least, although I doubt she'll get the kind of development JARVIS did considering the Iron Man franchise is over.

Diversity and interesting backstories/personalities sounds great (and, of course, the existence of a cool AI). I will bump it to the top of my watch list for when I get a spare moment.

Yeah, I really wish he'd been allowed to stick around. FRIDAY is nice, but we haven't really gotten to know her very well.

        I hope you like it!

Data will always be tops in my book. I don't include his demise in my headcanon.

    • WorldOct 14, 2016 at 3:56 PM

I love Data! And absolutely refuse to accept the end of Nemesis. He's definitely living the future from All Good Things, where he's a professor with some cats and stuff

      100% agreed.

My favorite characters from all the series I watched as a kid were always the ones who included some aspect of artificiality. I loved (and still love, of course) Data, Bashir, and the EMH from Star Trek. These characters just opened up whole new worlds of perspectives for me. I also loved C3PO and R2D2 from Star Wars.

    • WorldOct 17, 2016 at 10:03 PM

I agree! I think I've always been drawn to the "outsider" characters, and the artificial-ish characters tend to fit into that category

      • ElienSolisOct 18, 2016 at 10:51 PM

Yes, exactly! I could relate to their outsider perspective more than the other, more "normal" characters.
