For true stories that are so mind-blowingly ridiculous, that you could have sworn it was an Onion story.

Trump supporters launch #TrumpCup as a protest against Starbucks
After a viral video showing a Trump supporter yelling at a barista gained traction on Wednesday, other supporters have banded together to protest what they view as political and anti-white discrimination. The man in the video told the Miami Herald that he was racially discriminated against and that the barista wouldn't serve him because she knew he was a Trump supporter.
1) Asshole thought coffee took too long. 2) Assumed it was because he's a Trump supporter (And not, oh, coffee takes time to make). 2) Called nonsense "protest" with name labels and demands that they be addressed thusly, as one does.
Gotta love "pro-American workers" feeling entitled to abuse service workers. Wait, no. The other one.

The best part about all of this is that people are protesting by buying things from the place they're protesting against.
Yeah, haha, I'm not sure that's the way that 'market democracy' is meant to work, but anyway, carry on, disgruntled whitelings.
A lazy man's boycott.
"We still need our coffee, but we won't be happy about it!"
lol wow. also according the miami herald, that same dude has been harassing their reporters and sending bizarre ranting emails at them for years, and also has a long arrest record for DUIs and domestic assault, if I recall.
So he's a career disgruntled area man
yes, exactly.
Florida Man strikes again! Taaaa-daaaaah! ;)
It's a lose lose situation when people become passive aggressive. Much like the fake news articles, no one fact checks and thus momentum just builds. I'm concerned for my generation and this need to publicly shame if something isn't satisfactory
The urge for public shaming can encourage defamation as well. I recall a case involving a guy with a B&B who'd been misidentified as a paedophile and publicly targeted. His life, his business, omg.
yes, exactly. defamation and image are ruined before facts can be checked. long after acquittal, there are still remnants of the issue online and archived. What was used for social justice has turned into a tool for bullying
I couldn't stop laughing while reading this.
Where I used to teach, we kept a beautiful national archive of protest materials through the ages, and made a study of the different popular efforts and their effectiveness. I had my favourites. But if I lapse back into the habit of comparing the Hamilton moment is better in every way than this stupid cup.
Yes. A former civics teacher who grades protests, ha. ;)
Although it is initially laughable, this is an open form of abuse towards the baristas. The majority of baristas I've ever know have been of at least one category that Trump and true Trump supporters fight against (LGBT+, two X-chromosomes, etc). Making a barista write Trump, having the barista call out that name for pick up, all within the rules of the establishment is forcing that barista acknowledge the coffee-buyer's power. It would be considered an affront to a black establishment/team to write down, call out, and provide service for a person calling themselves Jefferson Davis, Jim Crow, Confederate, or any other noun that knowingly elicits negative feelings from that group.
I respectfully disagree... it's no more wrong then a gay couple buying a cake from a bakery that holds strong values against it, or buys bacon from a Muslim butcher. It's unfair to refuse service to someone because you disagree with their opinion and who they support. Trumps the president elect, there's other reasons to support him than his controversial racial and religious stances.
If the baker, butcher, barista are too sensitive or feel too strongly about their beliefs, they are in the wrong role.
And I hate Trump as much as most liberals but I feel strongly that our freedom of religion and beliefs apply to everyone.
Freedom of religion, etc. should apply to everyone, you're right.
Sweet Cakes by Melissa discriminated against the lesbian couple. Whereas, the hypothetical Muslim butcher could just not butcher pork, removing the choice from his store (a business can't stop you from buying what isn't there). If a Muslim wanted to buy bacon and they were refused, that would be the much more similar to Sweet Cakes by Melissa.
Sweet Cakes by Melissa has since closed: http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2016/10/sweet_cakes_by_melissa_bakery.html
Many Muslims consider some forms of dealing with pigs to be haraam, slaughtering outside of culling included: http://aboutislam.net/counseling/ask-the-scholar/food-slaughter/slaughtering-pigs-by-muslim-butchers-allowed/
All of that aside, that is not what I was getting at.
What I am getting at is that the #TrumpCup is about the customer bringing abuse to the employee and them "taking it" (not the business/employee preventing service because of religion/beliefs/etc.), and how I'm not okay with that. If someone walks into a fundamentalist Catholic cake shop and wants a cake with "Pastors Touch Little Boys" on it, would they be served? If someone wants a Muslim butcher to butcher a pig, would they be served? So when someone walks into an establishment and has them (one of the very people they "voted against") make "Trump" a cup of coffee, would they be served? It is a shit comparison, full of fallacy, I am aware. The goal here is to clarify my position and how it isn't about denying service due to belief but denying it due to the customer being an asshole.
Excellent point, LD.
