Book reaction in 3: A Little Life, by Hanya Yanagihara

  1. Even in the most overwrought of gothic romance novels, you will not find a tragic hero as frustratingly determined to wallow in his own suffering as Jude St. Francis.
  1. But, Yanagihara's writing and world-building and character developing are things both patient and bold, and as a reading experience it read a lot faster than its enormous bulk seemed to need.
  1. I really really do think Jude's Tragic Past is a little OTT, and verged on farcical at times? The final reveal about his car accdent-- it is really more absurd than harrowing.

Overall lesson learned: friendship is magic, except when it isn't.
