"Rumors about their rumors"... oh, that picture of Kent sitting in Jack's lap was in the tabloids. Oh. ow.
Oh, Chowder, you sweet summer child...
I think it's pretty clear here that Shitty has absolutely zero clue that Jack and Kent were anything other than hockey bros? Because if he knew there'd been a bad breakup I think he would have said something completely different to Bitty (maybe more along the lines of "Parse is a bit of a sore point, long story but not my story, expect Jack to be extra-uptight for a bit and cut him some slack") if not outright kept Kent out of the Haus. Because we did see Shitty willing to cut Jack some slack about how he was treating Bitty back during frog year, and willing to defend Jack under almost any circumstances...
So it's safe to conclude that as close as Jack and Shitty are, for whatever reasons Jack was obviously not cool with sharing any part of this with Shitty. Maybe he's just been waiting for the right time?
It seems so obvious to me that Shitty is the best friend Jack ever had, and that Jack loves Shitty, so this is a sad-face making mystery to me.
Is Jack just too private in a general sense or is this specific to his sexuality?
He treats Bitty and Parse the same (bc he's romantically interested in both even when he isn't fully aware of or on board with that) but their different reactions to him are why Bitty is so much better suited to Jack. I love that.
I have recently started reading a lot of kent/bitty/jack fics and it's something I never thought I would want to read because I've never been a fan of Parse but damn have those fics turned me around on him! Him and bitty together is usually pretty interesting.
I'm really into Patater but I also love pb&j and I think it all really comes down to how he's written and how the author deals with the history between Parse and Zimms. It's really fascinating to see different portrayals of him and I think for me I always gave him the benefit of the doubt because I entered fandom after reading the entire comic and didn't see things the way others did.
I just get really protective of Jack (because I relate to him the most of all the characters) and he wasn't ok with Parse so I wasn't ok with Parse. But I'm coming around now!
So much going on here with Jack and Parse yet still so much mystery. Those first three panels are gorgeous.
And Lardo slides in at the end to kick everybody's ass.
