I was really young, like 4 years old?? When I started doing weird canine things. But I only really understood what otherkin/fictionkin/kin!!! was when I was around 12-14, which is when I first awakened. First awakening was a wolf, first fictionkin awakening was Wolf's Rain's Kiba.
Actually, no. At first it was just a sensation of being something else. You know what it felt like, it felt like the world I was living in was overlaid with the world everyone else was living in.
Also it's important to note that this happened to me around the age of eight, which I later found out was the age when Gallifreyan children are initiated into the academy (which is an intensely life-altering experience that can either inspire someone to greatness or drive them mad.) So take that however you want.
I don't remember exactly when I first learned that I was a god shard, bcause it was sort of a long process between my first interactions with the gods and then realizing i was one of them (kindof) but i wound up learning via my friend who was also a god shard! Then as I looked into it more more pieces just started to fall into place! (The specific god I am a shard of is Osiris, fyi)
I didn't understand until within the last year/year and a half but I started having a "kinship" (ah, irony) with cats probably around elementary school? First kin awakening would be a cat, and first fictionkin awakening was a Naruto OC.
I've always exhibited nonhuman traits but didn't find the therian community until my 12th birthday, which I count as the beginning of my "awakening" officially. That's when I found a word for my experiences as wolf, the only nonhuman part of myself that was really prominent at the time. It wouldn't be until 6 and a half years later that I'd figure out I'm also fictionkin, and then not until a year or two after that that I learned of another fictotype.
It's honestly an ongoing process for me (not of finding new things necessarily but of coming to understand myself and how all of it fits together) and not just a singular Awakening event.

Coincidence? Probably not. :/
I started awakening as Gallifreyan in second grade, but didn't figure out what it was until last year
Oooo, that's really interesting. Did you even know about Doctor Who when you first started to awaken?

Aaahhh, that's really cool!
