Q&A for Beginners about Telescopes

For beginners, there are many issues to be understood concerning various parameters of telescope. The following are several frequently encountered problems and its explanations.

  1. The higher the magnifying power, the better the telescope? Most beginners hold the idea that the higher the magnification, the better the device is. The reality is with the increasing of this number; both the field of view and brightness are decreasing. Furthermore, the joggling of the image is magnified too. Thus the viewing effect is not good. Normally the recommended magnifying power is 7-12X. Stipulated magnification power for international military telescope is 7-10X.
  2. Can the telescope be used for observation under totally dark environment? For most telescopes in the market are night vision enabled with glimmer light. That means the telescope can concentrate the weak light at night and makes it brighter for the naked eyes to see. This is enabled by the concentration of weak light. That means average telescope can’t be used for observation under totally dark environment. A specific infrared night vision telescope is needed for this purpose.
  3. How far can the telescope see Actually “how far” is a meaningless phrase to describe the observing capacity of telescope. It is able to see anything human eyes able to see. The difference is that this device draws remote object near and making it magnified, thus you will be able to see it clearly. For those that are invisible to your eyes, for instance, stuff where no light can be reflected into your eyes, it can’t be seen through telescopes either.
